Maybe the December meeting should be purely a social outing?!  >:D  :D

And drinking - don't forget that!  :)

ETA:  Whatever everyone else wants to do is fine with me!  I've managed to get myself into a second book group elsewhere, so I'll not be wanting for reading classics - as I'll be reading Emma for January (other book group) and probably a Bronte novel for January (this group).  But just thinking with the Christmas season coming up, everybody's busy (I've another book to read as well!), we're meeting a bit later in the day, for the Christmas market, it'll be festive, wanting food and drink during/afterwards...  (The Yorkshire book club's Christmas party?!)

Oh poop - in my feverish state I totally thought that Anne Bronte only wrote one book and by deduction (rather than looking up Meg's post, which would be logical) thought that would be the one Meg suggested.  See what you get for not scrolling down the page of Wikipedia.

I have no issues with whichever Anne Bronte book gets read, of course.

Can someone promise me that there will be sauerbraten sandwiches and roasted hazelnuts at Christkindlmarkt?  Anyone?  Bueller?  I'm there regardless of reading requirements.

LOL!  Same here.  :-[  ;D

All I remember from last year's market is food and more food, and the booth with the pond of ducks - on that basis, I'm totally up for going back. :D

No idea.  I remember sausages, pretzels, chocolate, other sweets, glühwein & beer...probably some other stuff, but not specifically sauerbraten sandwiches and roasted hazelnuts.  You can get roasted chestnuts in downtown Leeds - pretty much all through the winter, if that helps?  :)  (I might do a reconnaissance trip beforehand & let you know.)

The Christkindlmarkt in Leeds is kind of on the small side.  I'd recommend taking it in, and then heading for a pub/restaurant!  But there is the enclosure at the market too, where they serve food, and the oompa band is supposed to be there at times though I've never seen/heard it.

Ok ladies...sorry I was MIA yesterday...Executive decision:No book for DecemberAnne Bronte for January.  If anyone has any disagreements, let me know :)

So shall we chose between the two Anne Brontes suggested?  Agnes Grey or The Tenet of Wildfell Hall?  The January meeting will be the second week in January due to the holidays...so January 10th.

WELCOME CINBIN!!!  You are more than welcome to join us as everyone else has already mentioned :)  Look what I miss when I don't get on UK-Y in one evening!

On December 6th, I am all for just going to the Market and then out for dinner/drinks :)

Meg, are you working late the weekend of the 10th?

Exjerseygirl, are you feeling better??  Let me know if you need anything or want to get together next week!

June Cleaver, I almost went into Betty's the other night and I thought of you!

Mrs. R., I shall be PMing you in a few moments :)

Cinbin, please let me know if you want to get together...where are you living?  What are you doing in Harrogate?

Ok ladies, vote for the new Bronte book!!  And I shall take the suggestions that I have been given and try to make an order of them by pulling them out of a hat!  :)

I'm off on the 10th of January but we have a wedding that day - it's in Oxford, though, so I don't know if we'll be going.  I suspect that if we're only invited to the evening do then we'll send our regrets as it's quite a long trip down and we'd have to spend the night.  :)

I vote for The Tenant of Wildfell Hall but am fine with either novel.  ;D

Oh, I hope you can make it Meg!

And I have no idea which book to vote for, they both sound so good I think I will read them both :)

I will vote for The Tenant of Wildfell Hall because it seems to be a tad bit more scandalous    ;D ;D

I love scandalous!  I can deal with the more scandalous of the two (although, did you glean that info off of Wikipedia  ;)

I'm trying to return to the land of the living, but for some reason I can't shake this hacking cough, swelch2.  I'm picking up my beloved Bug either Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on our friends at UK Customs, so I'll be in touch probably after that drama is done!  And Meg, do folks really only invite people for the evening activities, and not the wedding?  Wow.

Hooray for Christkindlmarkt.  I can go for a brat with some spicy mustard.  Man, Christmas in Germany cannot come soon enough.  Whoda thunk someone actually wanted to go to Germany for the food? It's like going to Italy for the efficient public services.

Exjerseygirl-I did get that off of Wikipedia :)  haha  I know, it is horrible but sometimes I just love that site!  Do let me know what you are up to this week...it is just job searching and housework for me as usual!

June Cleaver, we definitely must head to Betty's soon!  Let me know when you have a spare moment :)

Just waiting on Mrs. R.'s vote...though I am thinking we will be reading The Tenant!  Did one of you H'gate ladies happen to check it out already?  I looked and it was gone...If so, can I borrow it after you are done??  Thanks!

Hi!  I'm not bothered on either of the Bronte novels, so Wildfell is good for me!

Get to readin ladies!  Remember, no book for December :)  Our next meetup will be at the German Christkindlmarkt in Leeds around 6 on December 6th :)

January meeting is the 10th due to the holidays...I think the hubby will have the website up soon so I should be able to input all of this info onto that!!

Have a great day tomorrow :)

Cool--I may be up for the book meeting given that it will be in January, which gives me an extra month to read, and given that it's something I probably will like reading (I'm halfway through Wuthering Heights at the moment and enjoying it)!  [smiley=book.gif]

Most likely won't make the Christmas Market--it's hubby's birthday weekend and I'm not sure what's going on yet....
