Last year was my husband's first Thanksgiving over in the States. Now it will be my first one over here. Since my last year's main course was a flop I'm trying to find the elusive Tofurkey. Anyone have a clue where one may be hiding or perhaps a substitute? Thanks!

Never had one, we do a carrot-cashew nut loaf thing for my MIL, pretty tasty.

This is what I've done for several years--it's gorgeous, and even the meat-eaters love it:

That sounds delightful but my husband has to be one of the only vegetarians who loathes the carrot. :(

I think you'll have to have Tofurkey shipped in from overseas if it's a must-have.  It might cost you a bit though.

Thanks, I don't know why I hadn't thought of looking up the company (Turtle Island Foods btw). They list retailers here but they're all down south. Most of the stores that stock them are very similiar to Whole Foods.
I dunno, seems I'll have to wait until next year to afford it. Now, the crepes recipe has my mouth watering. Sure I can steal it?

Yeah, if I were to guess, even if it's a UK retailer stocking it, it's still coming from overseas = pricey.  :-\\\\

Of course! I just got it out of a cookbook--it's hardly a family secret or anything. ;D

My Thanksgiving (and any big roast dinners I make) always consist of a chunk of meat and a Quorn family roast (http://quorn.co.uk/our-range/nuggets-goujons-and-roast/chicken-style-roast/) for Adam.

I know some on here don't like Quorn, but he does, so our freezer is stocked with the stuff.

I've never had Tofurkey, but I'm guessing this will be the closest you'll easily find.

Tofurkeys are lovely!!  I saw them in a co-op in Brighton when I was last in England and was so excited.   I am sorry you are having trouble finding them, Manhattan!

Count me as another vegetarian who hates carrots...and peas... and celery...blech.

Good luck to everyone with their Thanksgiving meals!

A friend of mine is a vegetarian who loathes most vegetables!

Would that make them just an "etarian"?

Yeah, that is something that when I hear about it - 'a vegetarian who doesn't like vegetables' = just plain ridiculous.   ::) :)
