Degree certificates--originals or scans?
« on: November 11, 2008, 05:19:11 PM »
I've read posts by several people saying that they included their original degree certificates in their spousal or fiance visa applications to show their employability.  Is it necessary to send the originals, or could I send copies--printouts of digital scans?  I'm a bit nervous about including my originals, even though I know they send the crucial documents back.  The originals would be hard to replace if something happened to them.  Any advice?  Thanks.

I just showed them my university transcripts which showed that I completed a degree. They accepted that.

Then you don't really need them at all.

Vicky, would it not help one's case to show that you possess a degree and, generally speaking, may be more employable once settled in the UK?  Or does this not even come into play when applying for a spousal visa?

Only if your finances are borderline.

I'm a bit worried about our finances, actually.  My husband is working at a decent salary, but we just spent a lot on our wedding, I left my job in Prague so we could be married in the US, we don't have any savings, and we'll be living with his parents for a while.  That said, I have very good qualifications and am not worried about finding a job.  Vicky, do you think it would be sufficient if I sent high-quality color copies of my degree certificates along with my CV and references?  Thanks.

High colour scans are worth as much / little as normal photocopies, they just look nicer.

If you are worried, and think you would benefit from a document check, let me know.
