Gumdrops
« on: November 12, 2008, 04:20:02 PM »
I still have preggo brain, I think.

All of the sudden, after 6+ years here, it's like, 'Where are the gumdrops?'

Maybe it's Xmas coming along and remembering Grandma's gumdrop tree.

Where to find them?

Don't they call them spice drops here? I know they look the same but I'm not sure if they taste the same. I'm pretty sure I've seen them at Woolies.

Yeah, I'm not sure they taste the same. Even some US ones are pretty crap but others (spicettes?) are really good.

Expat, if you can't find a decent substitute here, let me know... I'm heading home next week and could send you some! ;D
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I've seen them--called American Hard Gums or something like that.  They usually come in a medium sized bag.  Good luck--totally get the preggie brain thing.  I've been craving all kinds of American sweets. :)

it's a tacky clear plastic tree you stick gumdrops on the ends of.  then when little kids come over they remember it forever.  sort of like me.  ;D

ASDA has the American Hard Gums in the sweet isle it is a light green bag with dark green stripes on the bag they are somewhat near where the bags of Freddy frogs are if I remember right. to me they aren't as good as the real American gum drops but they will do for now at least in my opinion.   ;)  ;D

Gumdrops!  My grandmother had them on the coffee table in front of the sofa in a white ceramic dish with a lid.  I think I'd have to be pregnant myself to crave them again, though.... :D

I honestly don't think I know what a gumdrop is! I lived in the US for 27 years, but I have no idea. What is it??

Oh, OK! Thanks, Laura, I do know what you mean now. I just don't think I ever knew those were called gumdrops. Don't they have them here? Can't say as I've really noticed, tbh.
