HSBC just flat out refused to provide me with statements at their local branch, telling me to just go online and print them out since I had an online-only account. The local BofA branch said any statements they print out would be indistinguishable from the version I'd get if I had printed the online statements out myself.

In the end, after a week of running back and forth to my local branches, I just decided to chance it and print my PDF-format statements out with a color laser printer. Luckily, it was never an issue and my T1 visa was approved.


That's exactly why I refused HSBC online account and keep declining their persistent hammering that I now "Go Green" and get my statements online only. Nope, I gather up those precious official letterhead HSBC statements as if they were family jewels and stash them into the file cabinet.

Shame the process is so often arbitrary, though. I feel for us all.
