The Independent Monitor is being phased out. While at the surface it seems like a blow to the advocacy side, it really isn't.
She is to be replaced by a "Chief Inspector", drawn from the ranks of the police.
As Independent Monitor, she was *supposed* to take up visa applications that had no right of appeal, provide representation for the down trodden and all that.
But when she went to the New York consulate, she totally ignored the stuff we asked her to look at, and then completely missed the point.
Personally I'm glad this facade is lifted. So when the story breaks in the media, don't feel like we have lost something.
