The exchange rate today
« on: November 20, 2008, 07:40:14 PM »
The pound is down to $1.47 when I looked just now.
I wonder if it will get down to $.85 to the pound? Its heading that way.

It was $1.45 when I first started going over, more than ten years ago. Still, I won't be quite so reluctant to hit a cashpoint for now  :)

When I moved to the UK it was 1.97 to the pound!  Which sucked coming from the US dollar to pound.  Now that Im coming home to visit, its going the other way! >:(

It is music to my ears, living in the US now and sending money over frequently. :D

I'm just glad we locked in a rate of $1.80-odd back earlier in the year for a two-year deal on a standing transfer to the US.  Sounded okay then, but it looks pretty darned good now.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

I get paid in pounds but live in the US. The difference in the last few months REALLY sucks for me.  :o

But I'm glad it's good for someone else!

definitely working to my advantage at the moment.  hopefully the pound recovers when i move over in '11 so it won't hurt so badly to pay back my American student loans!

£1 = $1.4932 as of 2-12-2008. It's been as high as £1 = $1.62 in the last week.

What is the difference between the regular exchange rate and the tourist exchange rate?  Where does one get the tourist exchange rate?  An article in the Daily Mail today had the "tourist exchange rate" as $1.42, but everywhere else has the $1.49.  What am I missing here?
