Marshmallow bag made me chuckle.
« on: November 21, 2008, 01:29:05 PM »
So, I fancied making some Rice Crispies Treats and bought a bag of marshmallows. I'm glad our local Sainsbury's has started carrying them in bigger sizes (although still smaller than American quantities).  Anyway, I was reading through the "Great Ideas!" they have on the back, most of which seem quite obvious anyway (eg. drop onto steaming hot chocolate), but this one caught my special attention:

"For special biscuit treats, top rich tea biscuits with 2 squares of milk chocolate and 2-3 marshmallows. Place in a hot oven until melted. Sandwich with another biscuit, leave to set and enjoy!"

Oh that sounds nice. Wait, I think I've done this before. Oh yeah, they're called S'mores!  ::)

I just loved how they had to go through step-by-step instructions on something most Americans have done regularly all their life.  To me it was almost like saying "ooh! here's a great idea!  Next time you dribble your tea on the counter try using some highly absorbant paper to wipe it up! You can just throw it away, no need to wash!"

Of course DH has this kind of amazement everytime I tell him that I've never heard of ButtonMoon that obscure shoegazer band that had a top 40 hit in 1993 in the UK.   :-[
Then I have to remind him that we grew up on two different continents.   ;D

Tee-hee.... it wouldn't really be the same, though... s'mores always taste best when made with a burnt up marshmallow you shoved on a dirty stick and put in the campfire.   :P

Very true!  Though they also suggested putting the marshmallows on a skewer and sticking them under the grill...
Also graham crackers are more er... grahamy than rich tea biscuits, which would make it a bit different.

Quite right, you clever thing.  My DH informs me the band nicked the name from the show.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

Doh, I'm a dummy.  I missed an "or" in that sentence. It should have read:

"Of course DH has this kind of amazement everytime I tell him that I've never heard of ButtonMoon or that obscure shoegazer band that had a top 40 hit in 1993 in the UK."

I did mean the kids TV show that SIL and DH made me watch the intro to.
I didn't know it was a band too! Crazy.  Wiki says: "Button Moon was also the name of a band with Bloc Party's drummer Matt Tong, along with his brother Ben.  :o

Chocolate Disgestives are a good substitute for graham crackers and they already have the chocolate on. ;)  I tried this out when I found a pack of Haribo marshmallows that were specially for campfires.

I roasted them on skewers and gave one to my DH who tried a plain nice and roasty marshmallow, then grimaced and ran to the sink.  He didn't like the texture.

But he didn't complain when I squashed one between two choc digestives. :)
