Booked Flights to the US in Wrong Name
« on: November 27, 2008, 01:11:05 PM »
DH wanted to surprise me for my 30th so he bought us tickets to NJ this weekend!  But since I didn't know about it I couldnt remind him to book the tickets in my maiden name which is the name in my passport.  He is worried about this as we're flying tomorrow so he's called BA and they've said they have to charge £30 for an administration fee to change my name.  But I thought the problem would only be when I came back into the UK but if I bring my marriage certificate, won't that solve the problem?

Do you think we really need to change my name even though my visa says Lissa Dee, wife of Paul Gee?

The problem isn't the visa or the immigration authorities, it is the airline.  You are going to have no problems from an immigration point of view in getting back.  The airline is the oinly problem.

this happened to me in South American pre-9/11.  i was able to show my marriage certificate and passport, and all was well.  ask BA if they will accept any documents as proof.

I have done this once before, I brought along a copy of my marriage certificate and it was fine. Good luck and have a good time!

Ah okay, it's BA.  I am most worried about immigration so if I'm okay on the front, I may just have to discuss/argue with BA tomorrow when we get there.

Thanks everyone!

I always book my flights in my married name and have to explain why my passport is in a different name. American Airlines is usually good about it because the reason why it's in my maiden name is due to their AAdvantage rewards program. As soon as I put my number in it automatically books me under my married name. I've flown many times and never had a problem.

Of course now that I'm saying this I will have a problem in three weeks :( when we fly to California for Christmas. HAHA. Murphy's law!

Well I'm back and didn't have any issues at all either coming or going.  So the lady DH spoke to at BA beforehand was misinformed.

Phew!!

Good to hear! That's always nervewracking thinking you might not get to go/come back home.
