I was sick most of the times I came over for the first few years I visited the UK. I put it down to plane rides and recently quitting smoking. Maybe it was just adjusting to their bugs.

Haven't been sick here the last few years, so let's hope I get off lightly as a new immigrant.

Someone mentioned the public transport aspect and I agree -- to suddenly be on crowded buses, trains or tubes with a ton of other people on a regular basis, if you were not travelling or commuting that way before, is going to expose you to a lot more bugs going around.

I went from driving around sealed up in my car in Austin, to being stuck in crowded tube trains, and I'm surprised I'm not sicker more frequently; it's a big switch to lots of sudden exposure to other peoples germybugs! :o

I am bringing so much hand sanitizer with me, now!!! And maybe a doctor's mask to wear over my mouth and nose until I adjust. :P

I was constantly ill during my first year.  I had a string of colds and fevers as well as a ton of outer ear infections that I just couldn't shake.  I'd never had a single ear infection in my life till I came here and then I just got hit with tons of them over the first year or so.  I was becoming very self conscious about it as my family in the US and people here were making comments about how sickly I had become!  I really felt like a hypochondriac and began to fear being around anyone who coughed in my vicinity because I was bound to become ill after that.

My GP and my pharmacist told me that the area I live in tends to have a lot of people from other areas and that one of the things they've noticed is that when people are new in the country it takes them a year or two for their immunity to really catch up.  Sure enough, my second year was so much better than my first.  I've been even healthier during this pregnancy where I'm supposed to have reduced immunity than I was my first year here.

If you're interested, here's a thread we wrote about it at that time.  You are most definitely not alone!!

I haven't been to the doctor yet. I don't drive yet and my husband is away during the week because he is in the Royal Navy, so I have to go through the hassle of catching the bus to get into town and I don't think its best for me to stand out in the cold when I am in this state.

I was sick constantly the first year I moved here. You name it I got it!  I've since discovered I have allergies as well. It does get better.

BTW my hubs is in the RN too

Another here who feels like she's been constantly sick since moving here.  There was a period of a month where I wasn't but it's starting up again.  I was always pretty healthy (maybe a cold or two a year back in the US) so this is thoroughly annoying.
