Christmas Morning: tourtiere, eggs benedict, grapefruit and mimosas

My family used to always have eggs benedict for Christmas breakfast too! Except, being the veggie that I was, I used to skip the ham and egg and wound up having a muffin with Hollandaise! We washed ours down with Irish coffee, though, and then moved onto the mimosas later in the morning!  :P

Hmm, mimosas.  I have a split of champagne in the fridge.  Methinks I may have some mimosas on Xmas morning too.

Christmas Eve - nibbles and lots of wine

Christmas - starting with mimosas and Bailey's & coffee. I might make pancakes but will more likely be bagels.

Christmas night -tofurky for me, dh is making his own meat and think he said something about a rib of beef? Plus yorkshire puds, roast potatoes, cauliflower and broccoli. And Bailey's cheescake for desert. Maybe a cheese board - haven't decided yet.

New Years is likely to be a repeat of Christmas Eve and NY Day will be another roast of some sort.

Are mimosas and Buck's Fizz the same thing?

We're going to the bf's family's house, and I'm positive they'll be making roast turkey, Brussels sprouts, and all the traditional Christmas fair. The day before we go down there I think he and I are going to make Jamie Oliver's jerk ham recipe, and probably the dried fig and goat's cheese bruscetta, just to have something a bit different. Mmm dried figs and goat's cheese....*Homer Simpson noise*

Christmas Eve- not sure, this year's theme is Austin Powers Christmas- I'll have to make something British, bring some mince pies or something  ;)

Christmas Day - Morning starts with irish coffees

Dinner will be a lamb roast and a pork roast, scalloped potatoes, green beans, carrots, rolls and homemade applesauce and pudding will be hot fudge brownie sundaes with friendly's peppermint stick ice cream

Are mimosas and Buck's Fizz the same thing?

I was just going to post a resounding YES, but thought I'd do a bit of research first. They're roughly the same thing, but Buck's Fizz is 2 parts OJ to 1 part champagne (or sparkling wine). A mimosa is 3 parts champers to 2 part OJ, so stronger. Buck's Fizz came first, by the way, by about 4 years. I generally do mine about half and half, so I'm not sure what that is. Mimofizz? Buckosa?

Mimosas with breakfast and I drink what's remaining in the champagne bottle while I get the turkey ready.  There is something I really like about getting a bit drunk on Christmas morning.

ed to add:  mimosas in my house are made with a tiny bit of grenadine in the bottom of the glass, fill half with oj and the other half with champers.  Yum!

I'm the same, chary, I like half and half in my mimofizzes as well! Darn, now I really want one but all we've got is red wine, which gives me a headache. Meh.

We're pretty boring...

Chicken with stuffing
Roast Beef
Yorkies
Potatoes - Roasted with Rosemary and Mashed
Veg - Sprouts, Carrots, Broccoli, Corn
Two types of Gravy

Port and cheese for afters

We'll be cracking open a bottle of bollinger in the morning and then it's just red wine and beer.

For Christmas Eve:

Steak
Potatoes
assorted veg

chocolates for afters since we have like 10 boxes.

Christmas Day:

Breakfast:
scrambled eggs
bacon
toast

Lunch:
chicken with stuffing
mash and gravy
peas
corn
carrots
green beans

Even though my parents are here, I just don't have the urge to do anything special.  I just haven't had the time to plan.

All these menus sound delicious!  And I love to cook!  But I can't get very excited about cooking for two.  I positively hate that stuffed to the tonsils, button busting, ready to burst overeating feeling so it makes no sense to cook a huge meal.  Thanksgiving was fairly simple and Christmas will probably be the same with a little extra for Boxing Day.
Turkey crown
stuffing
roast potatoes & gravy
roast parsnips
chipolatas

I'd love to make some homemade cinnamon rolls for Christmas morning but will have to cut the recipe in half and half again, and will still probably have too many.

I watched Jamie make that ham and those fig things on his Christmas special, and both looked amazing, I am sure that will be fantastic!

BTW, in my new cookbook there is a recipe for bread sauce, but I don't really know what that is like, and DH says he has never heard of it (must be a southern thing?) so could someone please tell me what it is like to satisfy my curiosity?  I think, runny bread pudding, but then, why would you put that on turkey and mash?

DH is cooking a Christmas eve dinner for the two of us and the little guy:

turkey crown
stuffing / dressing
some sort of mash
pigs in blankets
sprouts
goose fat roasties
honey glazed parnsips
christmas cake
christmas pudd
lots of Bailey's and Grand Marnier

Christmas morning we are going to the pub, so I guess it's Guinness for breakfast, followed by dinner at the in-laws, and no idea what MIL will be making, probably a repeat of DH's Christmas eve dinner - he had to have learned it from somewhere!   ;D

Other than that, we have loads of cheese and crackers, cocktail sausages, nuts, loads of chocolates, and several other munchies that we plan to nibble on freely during the holidays.
We are going to a pub crawl and party on Boxing Day, so who knows what we might munch to soak up the alcohol, but after that we are taking it easy, having the little man for New Year, so I might make that awesome Nigella ham... either the coca-cola one or the Christmas one with the cranberry glaze.... yum!

Bread sauce is divine! It might be my favourite part of the meal! It's not like bread pudding at all - it's savoury, rather than sweet. It tastes of onions, cloves, bay leaves, etc. and is absolutely perfect with roast turkey (or chicken) and roast spuds. I'll be making ours either tomorrow or on Wednesday and then reheating it on Thursday.

Is it a southern thing? I've never lived up north, but we've always had bread sauce with Christmas dinner.

I don't know, I just assumed it might be since DH had never heard of it before... maybe it's just something his family never has with dinner... might have to give Nigella's recipe a try, then!  ;D

DB's family always has bread sauce, he's from Essex, not sure if that's considered north or south.

For my family...

Christmas Eve:
Dinner at the Olive Garden (our tradition)

Christmas Day:
Breakfast-
eggs
bacon
sausage

Snacks-
shrimp cocktail
pigs in a blanket
chips and dip
cheese board

Dinner-
prime rib
carrots
roasted potatoes
rolls (although I might make some puds for DB)
Boston Creme Pie
