Your 2009 workouts
« on: December 25, 2008, 08:56:51 PM »
This is one of the slowest boards here, which tells me that fitness is a low priority for most, sad to say.

I imagine more people will be posting here come January 1st, when everybody makes their resolutions and see themselves in a full-length mirror after holiday indulgences!   :o  The gyms will be mobbed, you will see people in brand new jogging suits and trainers they got for Christmas.   Then in about three weeks, it all dies out.  Makes me chuckle every year.

I love working out at home with my large DVD collection and sets of dumbbells.  I can't use the excuse that the weather is bad or the gym is too expensive or far away.  I can exercise naked if I want to!   ;)

Anyone who thinks you can't get a workout at home is kidding themselves.  There will always be a place for Richard Simmons for beginners, but there are endless intermediate and advanced workouts to choose from.

A great way to preview different types of exercise is either at youtube or http://www.collagevideo.com.  I never buy a DVD without seeing if I can find a clip of it at Collage first -- then I Google for a cheaper price elsewhere.  Youtube.com lets you work out for free with three to seven-minute clips by various instructors, too.

So what are you lot up to, then?

Given that it's still Christmas day, it's not something that has even entered my mind.  :P

I work out at home also, but I don't change my fitness routine according to the time of year. I exercise regularly all year round. I try to (formally) exercise at least 5 times a week. I also walk a lot (I walk to work every day, which is about 1 1/2 miles from where I live.)

How can you make an assumption like this? I rarely look at or post on this board, mostly because I don't have much to say on the topic that would be of interest to other people, or any questions to ask. I'm still healthy and in good shape.

I wouldn't make any judgements about the level of fitness of people you have never met in the flesh.

You are so lucky you can walk to work.  I envy you -- unless you are walking through a blizzard.   ;D

Relax!  Have another glass of wine!  You made it through another year!   ;D

I do yoga at home and my New Year's resolution is to do a lot more of it.  I also cycle, but I can be a bit of a wimp about getting out for a ride when it's cold.

Fill coffee cup with hand pressed coffee, add whole milk, add sugar and add squirty cream on top. Hmmm...maybe that's why I've not lost the baby weight yet and it's been 7.5 months!  ;D

Now that's what I call a workout.

I am currently chuckling at DH.  He worked out hard yesterday with the personal trainer and was keen to continue working out by going on a bikeride today.  I woke up and was keen to enjoy my last day of holiday by going on our bikeride but he said he couldn't as he is too sore and it isn't good to work out two consecutive days.

Thats too funny Lissy  [smiley=laugh3.gif]  cause my trainer says that if you do your stretches properly after working out you shouldn't have any trouble working out the very next day. but you should have a day of rest in there somewhere if you work out out 5 -7 times a week to let your muscles relax.

I'm going back to the gym on Monday I haven't been in a while I know I will be so tired afterwards & my muscles will be really sore on Monday night & Tuesday morning.  ::)

My sister and I are like night and day when it comes to working out.  She is obsessed with it. Goes running everyday, takes classes, uses a trainer, etc.  Her last few boyfriends have been trainers as well.  I on the other hand cant stand to anything but walk. (I do like to hike, but not huge amounts of places here can also accommodate a 2 1/2 year old)

With that said, I've ordered a yoga DVD that was highly recommended by a friend.  Also a Mat to do it on.  I don't know how I'll get on, but I'm hoping I like it.

I do yoga at home and my New Year's resolution is to do a lot more of it.  I also cycle, but I can be a bit of a wimp about getting out for a ride when it's cold.

Any recommendations for a beginner?

Wii Fit? :)
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

Wii Fit? :)

I thought about getting it.  Hmmmm.

Is it worth it?

I personally love my wii fit for the yoga and balance, it is a good starting point.  I also love the balance ball to do additional fun exercises on that tone.  Now if I only made time for it all when back at work, that would be superb.

It's fun but, to me, it's not much of a workout. And that's saying something! I'm about as unfit as you can get! The one good thing about it is that it tells you every day whether you've gained or lost weight ... and that's the main reason I haven't used it in over a month!  :P

I was working out at home daily, but took a break for the holidays.  Now that I start work tomorrow I won't be able to go back.  I will be walking 6 miles a day while working.

I've always wanted to try yoga, but it seems much more difficult to find places which offer it here than back home (could also be that I used to live in Hippyville, CA and now live in CountryBumpkinLand, Somerset).  I'd also like recommendations on DVDs for beginners.  Unfortunately DH won't let me get a Wii! (Not that we have the extra money right now anyway, being right after Christmas).

Stacey, if you are really interested in getting in to yoga, I think the Wii fit isn't the place to start. It is important to learn to do the poses right and a class or working with an instructor is the right way until you are comfortable doing it on your own. IMO
