Tried and True Ice Cream Recipes
« on: December 27, 2008, 03:06:42 AM »
I got an ice cream maker attachment for my Kitchen Aid for Christmas!!!  ;D  ;D  ;D

Does anyone have any ice cream recipes they just love? I know how to search and find things on all recipes and Recipezaar, but I want to hear some opinions on ones that you might have tried.

I don't like anything coffee flavoured, but most anything else will probably work!

Thanks in advance, I can't wait for some homemade ice cream!!!  [smiley=chef.gif]

1. Go to supermarket.
2. Choose favorite flavor of ice cream in the frozen area.
3. Pay and come home with new ice cream.
4. Enjoy!

You're welcome. ;)

My favorites are the Alton Brown ice cream recipes from Good Eats. This one for vanilla is really good: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/vanilla-ice-cream-recipe/index.html It turns out really creamy and not icy or runny like some homemade ice creams turn out. My son loved it when I made that one and stirred in some Maltesers.

Carrie is the queen of ice cream recipes, but I don't think she posts here very often anymore. I use her rich chocolate ice cream recipe a lot - it's so smooth and sinfully delicious! I'm about to start packing up to hit the road, but I'll dig it up and post it for you when I get back, OK?

Another favourite of mine is to make very good vanilla ice cream and then toss in other stuff. I like to soak cherries in a bit of brandy and then throw them in when the ice cream is half done. Prunes in armagnac are lovely, too. Or peaches in brandy. Whatever strikes your fancy! You'll get more experimental as you keep playing with it. Remember - no ice cream is bad ice cream!  :)

(If you're using booze, don't use too much as it'll stop the ice cream from freezing hard.)

My favourite thing to make with my old ice cream maker (which I soooo miss  :\\\'() was a not quite sorbet. I'm not sure what you would call it.  I think I can remember how I did it . . .  I would get a big bunch of raspberries and/or strawberries (a combination of fresh or frozen often worked well) blend them up (and maybe strain out any seeds). Then I'd add sugar, the juice of a lemon, and a container of buttermilk.  Now I know that may sound like an odd combination, but I'm telling you, the end result was heavenly.  It has this really unusual flavour that is just lovely and everyone who tried it would love it.  It was also super easy and a nice refreshing treat to just pop out when you are in the mood for one but don't want to put in work.

I've used this recipe fo cheesecake ice cream (minus the chocolate, but adding in broken digestive biscuits) 3 or 4 times, and it's always come out  perfect.

Mint and oreos.  Sounds lovely, but I'd eat the entire batch!

Thanks for the recipes. I'm so excited to try out this ice cream maker!!! That mint one may have to be first, since mint ice cream is my absolute favourite.

Chary, I would love the chocolate ice cream recipe when you get back.

Keep them coming, please!  ;D

Just remembered you're in the US - that recipe only makes a pint for the petite ice cream makers over here. Double the recipe if you've got a machine that makes a quart..

It actually makes two quarts, so thanks for the tip!
