For anyone who doesn't like UK peanut butter, you might like to try the McEnnedy brand from Lidl... big jar, cheap, and tastes great!

I agree that Sunpat isn't very nice, although i ate it for years without thinking there was anything wrong with it until someone on UKY pointed out that it was vile.   UKY is dangerous that way... someone plants a seed, and...  :-\\\\   ;)

Jam on steak?  Who would do that?

OK, that must be why my friends MIL asked if they were going to put maple syrup on her steak.  When she told me that I was shocked.  I've really never seen anyone do it or heard anyone do it, but I've only lived in the north east of the US, might be common elsewhere. (I hope not though, EWWWWWWWWWWEEEE)

I agree about jam and cheese, YUM!!!  A grilled cheese dipped in strawberry jam is amazing.

Being British, I grew up with Sun-Pat peanut butter so I don't mind it at all, but it's certainly different, and if you're not familiar with its texture and taste I suspect one of the things which would be immediately noticeable is how it tends to be "clammy" and stick to your mouth  more at first.    So I'm certainly not averse to enjoying some tasty Skippy peanut butter.

Peanut butter & jelly?  I think many Brits have only ever heard of the combination by way of TV or movies, and sometimes don't realize at first that jelly is jam.  Even so, I'd say a lot of people still find it an odd combination, and it's not something that a lot of British children grow up enjoying, but here I am at 42 years old and I love the combination!

I've never even thought to try jelly/jam on steak before, but I do love maple syrup on bacon, which is something else than many Brits seem to consider extremely odd.

Reese's peanut butter cups?  Funnily enough, I tried them for the first time yesterday (at least as far as I can remember I'd never had them in the U.S. before).  Delicious!

I'm so glad you're enjoying the Reese's, Paul. They're lovely aren't they?

Not to start a war of peanut butter brand loyalty, but I am a Skippy girl through and through. I can stomach Jif brand if there is nothing else, but there's just something about the texture and creaminess of Skippy that makes it the best in my book.

I actually much prefer peanut butter here - the US stuff has way too much sugar (and transfats!) added, and don't get me started on the plastic texture!  :-X

Give me a jar of peanuts and salt and a dash of sugar ground up, with nothing else added, please.

And I was actually talking about marmite (juuuust the thinnest layer) and peanut butter - together - on toast. MmMm! I'm pretty sure I saw someone on this forum talking about it, and as it combines two of my favourite toasty treats, I decided to give it a go. It's absolutely lovely!

I was never allowed to have sugary peanut butter at home, I always ate Crazy Richard's.  So for at least the last 32 years you could buy unsweetened PB in the US if you wanted to.

Saying that, it is not the taste the completely gross me out about SunPat, but I have no idea what it is.  I guess the texture.

Finally, Peanut Butter & Co. has started selling in the UK and I LOVE their PB.  The Smooth Operator is good, my dh likes the Bee's Knees (PB and honey) and I use the Dark Chocolate and Peanut Butter spread with banannas.  It is like Nutella but not with hazelnuts, obviously.

Okay, some people here have crazy stomachs.  Jelly and steak or jelly and grilled cheese?!   :P  ;)  ;D

Dare I mention Nutella in this thread?  Texture is similar to peanut butter, but is THOUSANDS times better! :D

Now we are talking!   8)  I actually love them both equally.  I also prefer US pb rather then the yucky UK stuff.

Grilled cheese and jam is great.  It has to be the right combo though.  Never strawberry jam, always a high frut content and a strong cheese.

Brie and blackcurrant is my favourite, though cheddar and cherry.
