I joined up with SparkPeople, and I love that site.  It's working out really well for me.  So far, I have a lot more energy, too, since I cut down the amount of food I have been eating and eating more fruit and veg and drinking more water.  Hopefully once I lose the weight, I won't put it back on!  Still struggling a bit finding ways to exercise without joining the gym.  Last night I turned on the UKBody channel and did the New York City Ballet Workout, which was good, and then I did some bellydancing on the Goddess workout, which was pretty fun.  So far, so good!

My goal is to loose 2 stone. 28 lbs this year at the  very least.  I have lost 90lbs (almost six and a half stone) not that long ago, but since moving here I have gained back 20-25lbs! My goal is to loose 3 stone (42lbs) in total, but I would first like to get back to the weight I was after losing the 90lbs which I maintained for almost 2 years. (my body stopped there naturally, but I'd like to see if I could lose another 14-15 lbs past that)

Currently I'm doing foodfocus.co.uk to help me cut down on un-nessisary carbs, fat and calorie intake, and doing callanetics as well as walking 25-30 minutes a night. (started Jan 1st and lost a 1 lb!! lol :) )

Hopefully will start jogging soon, cardio calllanetics, and light weight lifting.

Thanks for letting me share :)

That's great, Steph!  I am sure if you have lost 90 lbs before, then you can lose the weight again. I just ordered one of the Davina work-out DVDs so I can work out at home.  Hopefully it will show up soon, because it's hard to walk when it's freezing outside, as I am sure you probably know!   :P  I'm not ready to invest in a gym membership, too afraid I won't go and then it will just be money down the drain!

i know what you mean, I just cant get myself out there jogging when it's dark and cold : walking is a bit better for now, and to get myself more prepaired for jogging (or so i tell myself!)

I am hoping I will do it again, I had to change my whole life and ideas about food etc, and I think if you do it the first time (which was soooo hard at first) then I am hoping the next time won't be so hard because you already know the things you had to learn the first time around. I think cutting sugar, caffine, and carbs down is the hardest since the body gets 'addicted'.

I can't do the gym, I'd rather do my own exercise for next to nil. I can't afford it now anyhow, would hate paying for something I didn't use or might be uncomfortable or self concious with. But that's just me, I have friends who love the gym and swear by it.

Let me know about davina's dvd, a lot of people like it, but there's just so many exercise dvds out there it's hard to choose!

Good luck x

I have done South Beach and Atkins and definitely lost weight, but it always came back.  I can't avoid carbs forever, it just doesn't work for me.  This time, I am just using the diet journal to track calories and trying to eat smaller, balanced meals with a few snacks in between to keep my metabolism going.  So far, it works much better for me, because I can build in little treats without totally blowing my diet!

I agree with you on the Atkins/SB diets. I also lost weight on those only to go off them and regain. In the end I just had to be honest with myself: I needed something that I could integrate into my life pretty much forever and I was never going to give up carbs permanently. For me dieting became about finding something I could continue to do indefinitely and if that wasn't impossible, it wasnt the right solution for me. Calorie restriction was it, pretty much. I eat everything, although I try to keep balanced (and I absolutely gorge on fruit. It's rare I have less than 10 servings of it in a day.) but I try to eat less of it.

I don't get particularly dramatic results though: since 2005, I lost only about 25lbs. When I get discouraged, I try to remind myself that at least I didn't gain anything. :)
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

Sometimes pain = no gain, which is ok, too, IMO!  I definitely think counting calories is helping me a lot.  I guess I won't have to be so vigilant about it once I start realizing what a healthy portion size looks like.  I'm trying to put twice as much veg or salad on the plate as the other stuff!

Hey Jewlz, I don't know if there's a Rosemary Conley group near you, but you may want to try going to one of their meetings: for signing up in January with one of their January Vouchers you can get a free set of portion pots.  If you don't want to pay continually just go once and keep the pots.   ;)  So far they've come in quite handy to me.

I'd love to lose another 100 pounds this year.  It would bring me to goal.  I don't think I will, especially after being on a restrictive diet of some sort for over 2 years (and losing over 100 pounds).  More realistic is probably 50-75.

I'm a low carb girl.  I've lost weight (100+ pounds two times before '07 when I started low carb) with other methods, and low carb is definitely what works for me and I sort of am prepared to eat lowish carb for my entire life.  If I can limit my off time (which I've come to realise is a fact of life for me, especially when I am ill), I should have no problem with my "realistic" goal.  If I could totally stick to plan, the full goal would be no problem.

I'd like to lose at least a stone I've picked up from popping 3 sprogs in 5 years.

My plan to do this is through increased exercise.

I want to lose 2 stone before I hit the big 50 this May!  I'm starting WeightWatchers tomorrow night (with a fried for encouragement).  Here goes!

Good luck, ladies!  I just received a few parts of my "home gym" (just some hand weights and DVDs and stuff) and will try to motivate myself to do a workout tonight, even though I feel tired and crappy.  I suppose it might make me feel less tired and crappy, at least, that is what I am telling myself!   :P

I'm a low carb girl too. I can't really do the no carb part for more than a couple of days, but I can stick with the low carbs forever as long as I have annual holidays. Like December :P.

My downfall is living with two stick figures who eat copious amounts of carbs daily, that I am expected to prepare.

Awww, that's so cool.  I didn't know they had a site for pregnant ladies.  If you ever join the regular Sparkpeople you should let me know so we can hook up on there!  ;D  It's helped me immensely so far, I have already lost 4 pounds since I started just by tracking my calories and such...
