Oh my hubby and I already get Child Tax Credit and Family Allowance (not sure the technical name for this but that's how it shows up on the bank statement?) for my daughter.  That was more of a "heads up" for anybody else who wasn't aware of it.

Ah, I see.

Yes, it's been discussed quite often both here and in the visa sectin, hence Shahbanou and Stacey helpfully made the 'Maternity Benefits' a sticky topic on this board!  ;)

Family Allowance is the old name for Child Benefit. In your case Shrubbery, your British husband will be able to claim this after the birth.

Ah!  Thanks for that, Shahbanou!   :D

Family Allowance (not sure the technical name for this but that's how it shows up on the bank statement?) for my daughter.

Curious.  It's always shows up as CHB on ours for donks.

Yeah that is odd as it hasn't been called FA since 1977!! I wonder if it is something else then, Shrubbery, as CHB is not available to people subject to immigration control.  Regardless, after the birth of your new baby, your husband will be able to get it for him/her.

I have no clue!  LOL.

One of the credits is around £50something/week and the other is around £20something/week.  I believe it's Child Benefit and Child Tax Credit (could be way off though) but our bank/Job Centre decides to call it Family Allowance on bank statements.  I'm lost.  Oh well...

I would double check your entitlement to be honest, because I am pretty sure that unless your husband has adopted your daughter, he can't claim for her and even then it might be doubtful because she herself is subject to immigration control.

Please double check this.

Both CHB and tax credits have fallen under the domain of HMRC for a while, and it is suprising to learn a Job Centre is still taking applications for it.

I wish ours were so helpful!  They'd have thumbed us in the direction of the library.

All these payments come from the HMRC and should appear on bank statements are credits under their proper names.

It is possible for awards to be made erroneously.  However, the onus is on the claimant to determine if and where an error has occurred, and be responsible for repayment if one has, so it might be prudent to double check.

 :D

I thought people with ILE were allowed access to public funds?

Sorry, hadn't realised you and your child were on ILE!

Ooops.

The woman who issued my visa actually told me that *all* child/dependent visas would now be issued as ILE.  Never got an answer on why this would be, since it seems to go against everything UKBA has posted in reference to child/dependent visas.  She said my daughter's visa (in specific terms) was issued as ILE because there is no father listed on the birth certificate and because we had been married for over a year when we applied, he had assumed responsibility for her and she was his *assumed* child.   :-\\\\  I was pretty skeptical but I was reassured...in writing...SEVERAL times...that her visa was issued correctly and there would be no complications down the road.  So now I'm just taking advantage of whatever loophole they found for her to slip through...and I have myself covered.

Hi all,

I  have read this thread and I'm pretty confused about my situation. I'm in the UK on a work permit (since 2005) and am 15 weeks pregnant. My midwife told me about this grant and that I'd be eligible but I know my visa says No Recourse to Public Funds. However, I notice some of the previous posters have claimed based on their husbands being UK citizens. My partner is a UK citizen but we are not married. Does this mean that I cannot claim? I don't want to do anything I'm not supposed to do but if we can claim the money, we'd like to!

I emailed about my eligibility but all I got in response was that I may be eligible based on this and they will only be able to say once I've applied. You don't get in trouble if you apply and it's denied do you? Sorry, I'm a bit in the dark about all of this.

As long as he's named on the birth certificate as the father he can claim child benefit and child tax credit. You won't be able to claim tax credits as a couple because that's classed as public funds, and neither will you be able to get the pregnancy grant.  Hope that helps.

Thanks Shahbanou. I'm not so concerned about the child benefits since I'm eligible to apply for my unlimited leave to remain later this year. It was more the Health in Pregnancy Grant. I'm sorry to hear that I can't but I figured that might be the case.
