After reading all the posts I can nearly hear the accent.  My parent live near to Mumble Menino or they used to.  Now all live near to Stoughton.  Miss Boston a lot actually.  My dad built alot of it.  Always showed us every one while driving through.  Watched the Perfect Catch movie the other day for the scenes filmed in Boston.  Keep up the news from home Boston Diner.  Its appreciated.

Well, here's the weather report:  we have finally gotten rid of enough snow and ice so that you can actually walk on the sidewalks.  And our roof is finally clear of ice dams and snow.  But there are still mounds of grubby stuff all over the place.
Tonight the forecast is snow turning to rain so should be a fun commute tomorrow.
When I got off the bus last night I spotted a tiny yellow dandelion  :o valiantly trying to do its thing in the grass around a gas station!!  No robins yet but I am keeping my eyes open.  Did spot a hawk flying over with a large twig in its beak.

Snow/rain/fog this morning.
Gov. Patrick's latest scheme for sorting out the transportation shortfall is to levy higher registration fees on SUV's and Hummers.  Hybrids would get discounts.
The economic downturn has well and truly hit Harvard University, one of the biggest employers in the state.  Pres. Drew Faust announced that the big building project across the river in Alston is being put on hold.  The intention is to complete the foundation of the new science center and then see if they can find ways to trim the expense for completion.  Faculty and professional staff salaries have been frozen and 1600 people have been offered early retirement packages. This could have a serious trickle down effect to the area.
Media news:  Dick Albert, WCVB chief meteorologist, has announced his retirement.  Meanwhile WHDH's anchor Randy Price has left abruptly with implications that he was retiring.  Not so -- apparently there were disagreements regarding the type of news being featured.

Sheesh I am getting old.  :o   I can remember when Dick Albert started in Boston lol.
Remember a very young Randy Price as well.
I'll have to say im glad that Steve Lavellie from WBZ was brought  back.. Good on all the listeners who wrote in with their displeasure on him being laid off. Shows the people do have some power..
I love to  listen to WBZ radio online. keeps me in touch with all the Mass happenings..
Even after being here for almost ten years now i still like to keep in touch with Mass news.. After all i was born and lived in Massachusetts until i was 37 sooo looooooooooog time. :). Course the fact that 97% of my relatives still live in Mass also helps keep me up to date. Its funny sometimes i actually know about summat before they do rofl...
Keep up the updates.

Do you remember Tom Ellis, Kaylesh?  He's another one gone recently -- laid off by NECN
From the Globe: NOT HAPPY TO BE LEAVING "I've had my turn with them and I am not dead yet and I am not retired yet," says Tom Ellis, at NECN since 1994.
He's 76 and I remember him from newscasts on the other channels -- I think he was with just about all of them at one time.

Hah! I was in Leeds then!  But remember my parents sending clippings and photos.  Do you remember weatherman Don Kent?  Why is it weather guys are allowed to have those good old Boston accents but the anchor guys have to talk posh?

Gov. Patrick's plan for fixing the transportation mess will include adding 19c to the gas tax, making it 42.5c per gal. (one of the highest in the country)  There would also be a Transportation Secretary in charge of highways, rail and transit, aviation and ports and the RMV.

I remember all those same people as well.  It's such a small world isn't it.  I remember the Blizzard as well.  My street never got plowed so it was like waist high for weeks it seemed.  I don't think I attended school that whole month.  We couldn't even see the cars parked alongside the houses - they were more like marshmallows!

I was in Roslindale in those days.

Yep I remember Don Kent. another name from the past :)..Dunno why the weathermen could have Boston accents but the newscasters had to have that posh non descript accent. How about Shelby Scott,Jack Chase,Gail Harris.
How about the show ZOOM ? still remember that song for the address to write lol
Box 350 Boston Mass 02134 send it to ZOOM lol
Yep the blizzard of 78 was something else.. I remember we didn't have much school in Medfield that month either.. was wierd to see snow banks twice my height. Roads that didna get plowed for days n days. Route 128 littered with stranded cars. Staying warm by the wood fireplace until things came back on..
Yep tis a small word indeed.I can remember listening to WBZ radio for the news etc . .I always was a WBZ radio fan weird for a kid i know to like talk radio n such but i can remember hiding my wee radio under my pillow to listen to Larry Glick at night rofl.. Yep i was indeed a glick nik .. Fun to share memories with folks that were there at the time or remember some of the same things that i remember :).

Loving this thread!  Don Kent was great!  But the blizzard of 78 was the big blooper of his career - he predicted snow flurries!  Some guy called in and said "I'm shoveling 28 inches worth of *!$$*//*# snow flurries out here!" lol

Did you guys ever send away to Zoom and get those cards back with the project directions on them.  Still wish I had mine with Jon on it - he was dreamy!

Do any of you remember the Uncle Gus Show on channell 9 out of Nashua?  Loved the Banana Splits on that show and that weird Huck Finn/Tom Sawyer cartoon.  And that Uh-oh Chongo line they were always yelling on the Danger Island part.

And how about Major Mud the astronaut on before school in the mornings?

I missed the blizzard of '78 by six months, but the first thing I ever heard about Providence was when it was declared a disaster area from the snow. I thought, "yay! I'm moving there!"

For many years, I worked with a man whose daughter was in the original cast of Zoom. Which was nationally syndicated, by the way -- we got it in Nashville. I *hated* that program  ;)

Ok then I'll fess up too.  Loved ZOOM and the Banana Splits as well.  How about Fluff?  I found it once here in Sainbury's.  But not anymore.  I really miss Cool Whip as well.  Sorry I guess I just hijacked this thread but didn't mean to.  Ok back to local news - remember Chet and Natalie.  Channel 5 I believe.  Did you know they got divorced like ages ago but I remember that being like a huge thing.  I guess everyone thought they'd be together forever.

Natalie Jacobson retired from Ch. 5 news within the past year.  Not the same without her.  Chet is still on NECN though.
