Anybody remember Anadama bread?  Loved that.  I was just telling DD about it last night and how it got the name.  And, folks, did you know that Brigham's has been sold to some company from Maryland  :\\\'(  They're still in operation and the ice cream manufacture has been taken over by Hood's.  Haven't detected any changes as yet.  Still reeling over our local Friendly's closing down some years ago (now a Starbucks, wouldn't you know!)  My parents loved going there at least once a week.

The story is that a fisherman (Gloucester?) got fed up of his wife Anna always serving him porridge of cornmeal and molasses.  So he takes the mess and throws a bunch of flour and yeast in and bakes it, cursing "Anna, damn 'er!"  Well, its a story  ;D

Remember whenever there was a Brigham's there was usually a Dorothy Muriel's bake shop as well nearby.  They were both owned by the Star Market people (who lived in Belmont)  Now Star was bought out by Shaw's (who at one point were supposed to be owned by Sainsbury's) ??

No!! Had no idea that Friendlys are closing and Brighams wow.  So much has changed really.  I've never heard of Dorothy Muriel's though.  I would love it more if Sainsbury's had more American food.  That would be great.  They do have Skippy Peanut Butter though.  Starbucks are even here in Swansea!  Do you remember whoopie pies?  Oooo I'm on a diet now and I keep asking about food on this page.  Sorry about that ...but do ya?  ;)

Oh yeah!  Don't think I've seen 'em around here lately -- but I know where you can get 'em in Wells, ME!!  ;) The food fixation is a real killer, eh?

A friend at uni worked in a PENNDOT road crew for the summer.

Her job, to map out which stores in their area had fresh, homemade, whoopie pie deliveries on which days and to go buy them out.

lol I would love that job!  I remember being able to get whoopie pies in Boschetto's Bakery in Roslindale Square.  It was close to Ashmont's a discount hardware store.

Do you feel better after the President's speech on the economy.  I thought he sounded very confident and hopefully he will be true to his word and be a bit more strict on the "fat cats".  I should think a big test for him.

I didn't stay up to watch -- so waiting to read a text version.  But don't know -- threats of layoffs closer to home aren't just going to go away, are they.

Wednesday was nuthin'  Yesterday we had a couple inches in the AM but dire warnings from the weather prognosticators saying the March nor-easter was on its way.  So everywhere was well covered again when I got up at 4:30 but not much plow activity as yet.  Piled on my LE Squall stadium coat, NEOS overshoes, gloves, hat, scarf and reflective yellow vest (from Sear's men's work dept.) and stumbled out into it at about 25 after 6. Very wet heavy stuff and a good breeze blowing.  Normally a 10 minute walk to the bus took about 15, having to walk in the street and jump into the side when a plow came by.  Stood by side of road with sleety stuff blowing in my face.  My neighbor turned up similarly garbed -- sans vest.  The wind is picking up nicely now.  The bus normally gets to our stop about 10 to 7 but was about 20 mins. late, creeping along behind the snow plows.  Hope we get brownie points for having attempted to get to work on time.  Enough of this stuff!!

Some of my ancestors are buried in Bellingham -- they had a bell foundry there.
