Fair bit of snow here today.  Still waiting to see the amazing infrastructure we apparently have up here to deal with it.

Everyone is a bit amused at the news coverage of all the snow down south... but at least reporting snow takes away from the gloom of the recession!

Very good point!!

I think the problem is just that it's so rare to have more than maybe an inch - in five years this winter is the first one that I've ever seen it last longer than a few hours on the ground! We're just not equiped for it. I can tell you one thing though, I'm going to seriously consider getting some grit to keep on hand if it doesn't stop - I HATE being trapped at the end of an icy road.

After saying that all the snow in Bristol had melted, we've just had a load of it overnight and it's still snowing quite heavily outside now! They've gone and suspended all the Bristol bus services, which means that I can't get to work today (what a pity) :P.

Yeah, not being able to get out of your house gets old, that's for sure!  A day or two ,fine, but its been a few days and I can see why you'd be annoyed!

Horrible here in Northants.  Another 6 inches on top of the snow that hadn't melted yet. I couldn't get my car out of my drive; so, I am working from home.  I work in Luton and apparently, the M1 is in poor condition (not to mention the country roads I have to take to get to the M1) and Luton has major traffic jams and no grit!

It is certainly pretty; but, I wish I had some grit and a shovel.  They were out when I went to two different B&Q's yesterday.

The good news?  I met the neighbors when I was walking the dog this morning.  First neighbors I've met and they were lovely.  ;D  Even invited me for a coffee or glass of wine sometime.

Nope, apparently we're as pathetic as everyone else... some of the schools have closed... amazing...  especially since there isn't all that much!
Buses are running though, cars are getting around... the office is full of people! No one reporting any major issues getting into work today.   But some schools closed! Amazing...

I'm loving the snow.

What I'm not loving, however, is my workmates who have stayed home for a day or two because of kids or apparently being snowed in and then coming back to work to tell us what a great time they had sledging or building snowmen in the garden. Staying because of the kids is one thing but saying you were snowed in when ALL the rest of us managed to make it in is totally another... and then to go about all the fun you had while us poor slobs were at work!

Heavy snow here in the Sheffield area right now....I made it into work (barely), but now I am worried that I won't be able to get home since they are starting to suspend bus services and cancel local trains. :(  I only decided to come in today because it was forecasted to stop snowing this afternoon- if not, I'll probably leave early.

Stopped snowing here and now rain is forecast.  Rain on top of snow and then it is back down to freezing tonight.  I hope there is a bit of snow melt or I will never get my car out.  It is well and truly stuck.  Spinning tyres. The whole bit.  I don't want to be at home!  I have loads to do at work.  At least I can work from home...

Yes..this hacks me off too.  We have had a girl who lives a easy 10 min walk from work but she has not been in since Monday because she is "snowed in"...yet everyone else who lives in the sticks has made it from Tuesday onwards...I don't think she has a understanding of what "snowed in" really means.  >:(

Heavy snow all night but its thawing now due to some speradic showers of rain.  I hope it does not freeze over tonight otherwise its turns into sheet ice.  I already went ars* over tit getting to work this morning.  :(

Its not pretty snow anymore. Its dirty snow and slush..

My worry is that the rain will melt the snow, but everything will be soaked by the time night falls - and then it will all freeze.... I'm going to get dh to put the car at the end of the road this evening - as close to the treated surface as possible. At least then I might stand a chance of getting out tomorrow. Forecast here is for more this weekend and Monday. And I really need to drive up to Aylesbury to see a friend in hospital!!!  :-\\\\

Tim doesn't have a snow shovel....so I used a a garden rake to "shovel" the driveway...hopefully Tim will be able to get his car up it this afternoon!

The shop called DH just a few ago and told him not to come in, that the roads in that part of Nott'gm had not been gritted!!!! ;D Very cool, so we're going to take the LO for a walk when she wakes up and use the carrier we bought a year ago before she was born. No way the pushchair'd make it anywhere today!

If it's not safe to drive, I think you should err on the side of caution and not go out, personally. I guess I'm lucky in that I can really easily work from home as long as I prepare - so last night I checked the forecast before leaving the office and packed up my laptop and a load of papers that I need to read.

All I can say is BE CAREFUL. I just walked to the post box and the ice under the now melting snow is REALLY slippy. One of my best friends slipped over on Tuesday evening and is in hospital with a really badly broken leg. It's SO not worth it!!!
