I'm totally regretting coming into work as the buses are now largely stopped here.  Trains are still running, but I've been offered a lift most of the way home by a kind co-worker, so I'm going home in 45 minutes.  A lot of schools are shutting and kids are being sent home..it's getting pretty dangerous out there.

OMG!!!  I hope they are OK!  How awful!

They operated on her last night and now the physio is giving her a test to be sure she's OK on crutches - hopefully she'll be discharged this afternoon. But it's not worth being a hero and taking chances - if it's at all icy, and you don't HAVE to go out, don't.  :(

Absolutely!  I'd rather my postie be safe now that I think about it.  I'm OK without mail for a bit :)

I've been looking at videos of driving in the snow in the UK and I was wondering if snow chains are available over there?

No, not really.  It only happens every 15 years or so and snow chains really damage roads.  They are banned in my home town in PA and we get way, way more snow than here every year.

All you need are all-weather tires

I thought I posted to this thread... guess I didn't...
Boyfriend's boss lives on top of a steep hill and he's got special snow "shoes" for his tyres- they slip on.  He'd never get up the hill otherwise, sometimes it can be snowing up the hill and raining down here.

It's 8 degrees F here in Cambridge, MA this morning.  And that's not counting the wind chill.  No more snow since Tuesday though.  :P

Anyone to the north west of London (me  >:( ) - BBC just forecast another snowfall tonight - north west of London potentially worst hit with up to 8"

Just shoot me now.

It was fun on Monday. It's far less fun now.
