I managed to make it in but I am a little worried about getting home. I managed to drive in very slowly but my car was sliding all over the place. On a good day its a quick 10 minute or so drive.
Hopefully they will take pity and send us home soon..
I am the only member of my team that has been in every day this week. I don't know if I am tenatious or just plain nuts.
This chap who lives right near me has not been in yesterday and today so hope I don't make him look bad by battling my way in ;D
Good things come to those who wait...a really long time.

An absolutely beautiful day here.  Cold indeed, with a breeze, but clear and dry.  Going to go and take down the greenhouse and pull down some of the pergola that blew down in a gale.

As far as I can tell, we're back to business as usual in Leeds though - although they aren't emptying the bins this week.
I was under the impression that that was business as usual. ::)

Yes, that can sometimes be the case.

We in London FINALLY got a postal delivery yesterday, but they didn't pick up the bins!  Who knows what sort of schedule the council's going to come up with now, but the street looks terrible.

Well at least the rubbish won't smell with it being as cold as it is.  :-\\\\

Maybe the council hope that the snow will cover it up so no-one sees  ;)

It warmed up over night so the snow melted enough for me to get my car out.  It was flurrying this morning and didn't look bad so I headed into work.  Once I finally made it to my exit, I had been on the road for 3 hours and it had started snowing heavily.  So, I turned around and headed back to home.  A total of 7 hours in the car driving on horrible, ungritted, nasty, dangerous roads makes me angry.  I found a shovel, which is a good thing since I had to shovel my car back into my drive. >:(  And it is still snowing heavily and we have well over a foot on the ground now and NO ONE FLIPPING SHOVELS!!!  ARG!!!

More to come Monday and that makes me angry...

[smiley=curtain.gif] I'm still really enjoying the snow.

I'm genuinely sympathetic to all of you who are struggling with this though.

We haven't had snow here since Monday, but this morning my husband drove 20-odd miles southwest to go to work, and it was blizzarding!  He got the day off, and then tonight our power was out for 2 hours.  No word yet on whether that was weather-related or not.

My friends and family back in Florida are all moaning about how cold they are. Because it's 60 F outside. Heh.
If we called them Sad Meals, no one would buy them.

And I feel for them!  Because that is MY kind of weather.  I was weather-happiest in Tampa Bay.  Here right now majorly sux.  :(

How odd, they picked up our bins on Friday (yesterday) as per usual. In fact, I was watching them doing it as I waited for my bus Friday morning. Boy, those guys have it hard. It seems all very physical. I felt bad for them. Not only is it hard work but now they have to compete with the cold and the icy roads/pavement. Not very nice.

I guess they got back to it then before the week was out.  When I was online either Monday or Tuesday, and I can't remember if it was the BBC website or Yorkshire Post - along with school & other weather cancellations for Leeds/Bradford, it said that the council was asking people not to put their bins out this week as they weren't planning to collect due to the bad weather/treacherous conditions/etc.  But maybe since we didn't get a lot more snow & roads were getting cleared, they got back to it sooner than they originally thought.

I agree they do work hard, and we don't usually have much problem with our bin collection.  They overlooked our black bin the last time it was green bin day too, but I figured maybe there were so many bins out there (black & green) they just thought they'd got them all & it was an inadvertent oversight.  Of course, there's been the odd strike here & there (and I'm a union member/supporter so I don't mind that either), but other than that, it's usually alright where we live - not like what Elynor was reporting around her area.
