Product Rave - Frozen Garlic
« on: January 10, 2009, 06:48:21 PM »
I love to cook, but I am going to admit, I find chopping garlic to be a palaver, I hate the way my hands smell even if I use that stainless steel bar of soap thingy...but a few weeks ago I bought a bag of chopped garlic at Morrisons and its amazing! The garlic tastes as good as fresh, and its so easy just to throw some garlic into anything. Also, its actually cheaper than buying 3 cloves of garlic at the supermarket!

I mean in the grand scheme of things, chopping garlic is no biggy, but I find this to be a really good time saving product!

I haven't seen the frozen garlic, but I do use the 'lazy garlic' and 'lazy ginger' sometimes.

Dunno if they have them there but we have something called Dorot. They make frozen cubes of Garlic and other herbs...it's REALLY handy.

Actually, on their website there's a "where to find our products" link and it says the UK. Try seeing where they carry it...they are great.

I didn't even realise you could buy frozen herbs!  I'm always wasting fresh herbs because they don't seem to last very long and I'm hopeless with plants!

This sounds awesome, I'll have to remember to look for them next time I'm in Morissons!

rachee, it's like you were reading my mind! Is the product just called Frozen garlic?
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

I freeze normal ginger.  Not sure if you're suppose to or not, but it seems to work for me.  Just pull it out of the freezer, do a partial defrost in the microwave and Bob's your uncle.

Ditto.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I just absolutely HATE peeling and grating fresh ginger. It might be, for some reason, my biggest hate job in the kitchen. The cubes are actually better than the bags for me because it's more... mushy. The bags are just really fine minced ginger which can overpower some recipes, particularly if you don't measure it (as I tend not to!)

Yep, tried that. Still hate it. I have no idea why... I don't mind doing garlic, onions, etc. but I'd rather not use ginger than peel and grate it. Maybe I need professional help!  ;)
