Embassy Closed Friday, 11 June 2004 - Day of Mourning
« on: June 08, 2004, 01:29:16 PM »
The US Embassy in London will be closed on Friday, June 11 2004 in observance of the national day of mourning following the passing of President Regan. Condolance books will be open for signing outside the Embassy on the 8th, 9th, and 10th. All visa and passport appointments on the 11th have been cancled and those affected will be contacted to arrange for another date.

More information on this can be obtained fro the US Embassy website at: http://www.usembassy.org.uk/

(Im feeling really bad for the people who had visa appointments! Especially if they or their spouses had to fly in from a different country to attend, or have plane tickets to leave a couple of days after their scheduled appointment because they expected everything to go as planned. I suppose this is a good example of why not to book your tickets to leave the day after the interview!)

You mean Friday 11 JUNE, don't you?  ;)

Just curious - did the Embassy close when Nixon died?  I really am curious - I don't know.

I don't think they did...but then, Nixon didn't have a State Funeral or such a national outpouring of grief.  Seriously, folks, the mood here is pretty down.  At least where I am, and what I've seen and heard.

The Govenor of California has directed state employees to take the day off as well. We are having major budget issues and they all get the day off with pay  :-\\\\ Good reason - but hard to get my head around.

And yet if they ask for time off to actually go to someone's funeral they know... ::)

I have only been back for four weeks and super busy getting jobs and finding a house, etc., so I really don't have a good feel for how effective he is. I think it’s a bit of a novelty to have him! I will keep you posted  :D
