Where would you buy a mattress?
« on: January 13, 2009, 03:31:46 PM »
we need a new mattress.  we have a frame- just the mattress.  last time we bought online and it's only last (3) years and i've hated it most of that time.  john lewis, debhamans, etc?  are there any mattress specific (or bed specific) stores in the UK?

i feel like i should know this answer.

We bought ours at John Lewis and I love it.  We got one of the top range ones though, cause I love my sleep.   DH is always banging on about buying stuff in John Lewis because they apparently have good customer service and warranties.  So far we haven't need to use any, but it's there as a security blanket if need be.  We also looked at places like Dreams, which have the standard brands which you could then find cheaper online.

We bought our frame and mattress separately, frame on eBay and brand new Sealy pillowtop mattress with individually wrapped spring coils from Tesco online.  Very happy with both purchases!  We got Tesco Clubcard points on the mattress and they had a free delivery thing going at the time, not to mention the mattress itself was 30% off, bargain!

We got our at Dreams.  We ended up getting a memory foam mattress for a decent price.  They always seem to have sales.

Bensons for Beds

We ordered online, however it takes about 21 days.

I can also recommend Mattressman online - used it before and they do free next day delivery, I'd have used again had I realised Bensons would take so long!

My husband had bought his bed and frame at Habitat before we met.  I hated that mattress, especially when I was pregnant!  So we went to Dreams and tested a bunch out.  We loved the memory foam ones, so knew that is what we wanted.

Habitat beds are a bit different in size to other regular mattresses, so we had to order on-line for the right size. (I think they use European dimensions , but I might be wrong)

i think i'd order a memory foam- but the boy really needs to try one out b/f i buy.

i'll see if there's a bensons for beds or dreams.

(we ordered from mattressman online previously- great- but ended up with a bed we don't like- which wasn't their fault- should have tried prior to buying)

We got our at Bensons for Beds, I told him how much I wanted to pay for a very expensive mattress and we met somewhere in the middle. Try haggling with them, they do have some room to move.

NOT IKEA.  Then you have to buy all your sheets from there or they don't fit the bed.

John Lewis, too.

John Lewis has funny size mattresses?? I didn't know that! Are their sheets odd-sized too, or normal?

Ours is from John Lewis.  It worked out well, since a UK King is fairly close in size to a US Queen, which is what we had in the US.  We just brought our sheets from home.  Handy!
