I've been to a lot of gigs and met/got autograph/kissed a lot of popstars in my life (I'm old!)

My 2nd husband was the original bass player in Orange Juice... well, they were called the Nu-Sonics then, and he left/was chucked out just after they changed the name of the band.

Last night I dreamt that my former flatmate was dating Paul Bettany ... not only that, but they met on an online dating site! And all I was thinking was, "I can't wait to post that on UKY!"  ;D

Does a brush adjacent to fame count?  My sister worked at a store in Brooklyn, and sold a coffee pot to Jennifer Connelly.  Apparently the color of the coffee pot on the box didn't match the actual coffee pot, and when Ms. Connelly discovered this when she got home, she called the store and got ornery with my sister on the phone, which is a conversation I wish I could've heard.   :)

Thanks for all the replies.  They just keep getting better!

My husband is the one who seems to have the brushes with fame in our family.  I almost never do.  :-\\\\

LOL!  Two Dallasites met Billy!  That is awesome!  I was so starstruck since they were my fave band at the time.

Also, one of my best friend's is Stevie Ray Vaughan's first cousin.  She only met him a few times since she was really young when he died.

!! Yeah, and between us we've got 2/3rds of the Wilson brothers. Less impressive as they are from Dallas I guess :)

Yes, my sister was totally obsessed with Smashing Pumpkins at the time. We waited in line for eight hours at a signing at the old Tower Records on Lemmon. He was really sweet to her. I was a ridiculous sixteen year old who was all like "Ugghhh, yeah I'm just here for my sister, I'm really more into The Cure" hehe :)

My sister and I were in Disneyworld in Epcot at the end of November and we were waiting to see the Candelight Processional that was going to be narrated by Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser, How I Met your Mother)...as we were waiting in line he came out of the amphitheatre into the park. We were 3rd in line with about 80 other people and we were the only ones who noticed him..my sister took a picture of him quietly and he saw her so he stopped and faced her and smiled at her and let her take a picture of him...

the other run in I had was back in the late 80s. We were on a school trip to to NYC to see a broadway show. When the show was over and we were waiting outside the theatre for the bus I saw Timothy Hutton walk by with a girl. Everyone else noticed the girl because she had dreadlocks in her hair...when I looked at him I realized who he was and my eyes got big with recognition. But I didn't say anything...he smiled and winked at me and walked down the street. Once he was far enough away I asked my girlfriends if they saw the guy with that girl...they all said no and then I told them who it was...they all started screaming and they were upset they missed him. (at that time in school we had seen him in Ordinary People and Taps we all had huge crushes on him)

Does a brush adjacent to fame count?

I hope so, because my college roommate is at this very moment celebrity hunting in Aspen!
So far she's seen . . . Lyle Lovett in a restaurant.  http://www.iwannabeadomesticgoddess.blogspot.com/

I hope so too.  My English teacher in high school was Jessica Lange's cousin; their moms were sisters IIRC.  A woman I worked with back home was engaged to Tim Allen's brother.

Gene Kelly once stepped on my grandma's food while they were waiting in line at an airport...does that count?

I've thought of something else! I've met Wilco and Pete Yorn.

Hmm. Oh yeah, my boyfriend has had people make fanvids of his songs on YouTube, which is kind of cool/weird.

That's all I can think of, though.

Another one I just remembered:  My friend and I read tarot cards for John Bonham's son.  His band (can't remember their name) had just played and we were hanging out at the bar.

Although I haven't met anyone famous, I am related to Angelina Jolie by marriage. My aunt's husband is Jon Voigt's cousin. I don't think they have spoken to each other in years. It always illicits a few "ooooohhhhs" when it comes up in conversation though.

My sister was an extra in an Adam Sandler movie years ago. She said he wasn't very nice.

And for the obscure celebrity, my old neighbor's brother was the lead singer in a band called The Mentors. Their music was a bit on the crude side and was used as a main example in the Senate hearings of the 1980's that brought about the "Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics" sticker on cd's in the US. I never knew about this till I was doing a paper on censorship and music in college and found his name and thought "hmmm, that's my neighbor's maiden name". When I asked her about it she laughed and said it was her brother, and he always said those Senate hearings made him famous and got them many more gigs.

My sister was an extra in an Adam Sandler movie years ago. She said he wasn't very nice.

I met Adam Sandler when I was working on Monday Night Football a few years back.  He was doing a promo interview on the sideline.  On his way through the stadium, he came through and said hello to the crew.  This is an exact transcript of our conversation:

Adam Sandler:  Hi, nice to meet you.
Me: Hi, nice to meet you, too.

He stuck out his hand to shake mine, and his press pass, which was around his wrist, blew up between our hands just before we made contact, so that we wound up shaking hands around his press pass.

Adam Sandler [indicating press pass]:  I'm sorry about that.
Me: No problem.

Anyway, he seemed ok, but we just had that one encounter.   :)

I used to get pressed into service to sell programmes at the Cleveland Grand Prix every year while my brother & sister were in marching band in high school, so met loads of celebs because of it...  I think I still have all my press passes in the states.  Most notably was Crystal Bernard (who had crashed her Dodge Neon in the races repeatedly) walked out of a port o potty & came up to me and bought a program.   :-\\\\

Susan Elizabeth Philips (Romance writer) is my high school Economics teacher's sister in law.  He's a weird guy and just came out and said it during class one day and offered to get her autograph on some books if we wanted.  No one took him up on the offer...probably out of sheer mortification that he admitted that he even reads her books!   :o  He always did know how to make the whole class laugh though.   ;D

ETA:  My friend was engaged to marry Martin Powell (of Cradle of Filth, My Dying Bride and other bands).  He's married to an American girl now.  I know him through DH's friends...

DH's best friends with the Maudling brothers of Bal Sagoth (I worked with 2 bandmembers at my last job).  DH & I got together shortly before Dave MacKintosh defected to be the drummer for DragonForce fulltime.  Can't blame him to go where the work is.   ;)  Through them I've met a few members of My Dying Bride.

I've not seen anyone in ages now since I had DD, I've stopped going round...
