Re-entry to the UK on PETS
« on: January 22, 2009, 05:46:28 PM »
Sorry-- I know it must be on here somewhere, but I'm a little confused about how re-entry to the UK works once you've gotten in and gotten a UK vet to issue an EU pet passport. My husband's family lives in France and we've considered taking our dog with us there for visits. But on DEFRA's site, I saw that the blood test must be done again for a pet to re-enter the UK, even if they have an EU pet passport and all rabies vaccinations are up to date. Does that mean the EU-approved lab report, the 6 month wait, and everything else all over again?
Here's the quote:
"However, to enter or re-enter the UK the pet must have had a satisfactory blood test, which can be arranged in the UK or in any other listed country. Pets entering Malta, and those entering the Republic of Ireland from any country other than the UK, must also have had a satisfactory blood test. There are no requirements for animals travelling directly between the UK and Ireland. The 6 calendar months wait to enter or re-enter the UK will apply from the date the blood sample that gave a satisfactory test result was taken."

With a bit of googling: it looks like he just needs wormed etc again before entering the UK again so long as you stay in the Pet Passport area.

Here is a link referring to taking your dog on Holiday in france from the UK.
