comment on the Flat/House Web Advert
« on: January 23, 2009, 08:35:20 AM »
Maybe this could go on the "Other Games" section...

.. or is it too boring...?

We show a link to a flat/house/place... and get comment from next person.. :)
ha!  maybe it doesnt work...

But for example this:
http://www.gumtree.com/london/55/32264455.html
(i picked a gumtree posting semi-randomly)
Steve says I will not see better value for money in Zone 1... what do you say?

Good Morning!

It's a nice price for the zone but you have to see it. I'm betting it's gonna be teeny tiny.
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

Agreed.  Probably genuine, but probably a shoe box.

I thought links may not work... or dis-preffered, but I wasnt sure and couldnt find advice against it...

Well, I'm going to watch the movie Notting Hill just for fun, but I heard that's an expensive...
I dont want to live in a too-much-sought-after neighborhood.  Is this one to avoid.
What are the Top 5  neighborhoods to avoid based on this criteria, or is it just the innermost  areas and that's that.

I live in a shoebox right now, so if I upgrade to a Bootbox it would be great!

A little help, do you know approx the square footage/meterage for these avg shoeboxes?
I cant say how small mine is, but its probably half than what you're thinking :)

and OMG it's right on the A40!  It would be so noisy!
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

I take it that's a  big road, main road?

Well now I live on a street, not an avenue, so it's quiet for Manhattan... but noisy.
I guess I'll learn all that when I go see the places...
My concern is, I will see these places during the day...
nothing like settling in and realizing youre not able to sleep the first night because of all the noise...  or like the busy safe neighborhoods by day that become spooky dangerous ghosttowns by night...

yes, beware of flats that say minutes from the tube, the tracks are probably behind the trees at the end of the garden.....happened to me once with a flat in Chiswick ::)

I thought the tracks were mostly underground?  does the building still shake?
I wish not to be more than 5 minutes from the train, 10 if need be... good exercise but not great as its usually to cold or too hot...
I have friend in BKlyn where subway goes overground who live with a frontrow view of the tracks... their apartment should come with free popcorn!

Unfortunately the tube is above ground at the end of most lines. I think you will find it difficult to decide where is best to live until you know where your working. West London then Richmond, Putney, Chiswick, Kingston, Fulham or Wimbledon are good. East London, Greenwich/Blackheath , Hoxton or Tower hill areas are good. Never lived in North London so can't comment.
Overall bear in mind that most of the tube network is north of the river but there are good train links to the south and the higher the zone number the cheaper the rent will probably be.
