I have a strong suspicion that our landlady is reading this thread since I got an extremely polite and carefully worded email from her a short while after I posted here.  They're Americans, there are other Americans in the building, this board is public and well-known in the expat community... and she's basically telling me to take a long hike off a short pier.

Regardless, I want to thank everyone who's dropped by with a word of advice or support.  You've all been immensely helpful in keeping us sane and we're taking action, which will hopefully resolve our situation, but under the current set of circumstances, we probably shouldn't make any further public updates.

 ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

It gets worse! Thats completely understandable that you want to post no further updates.  Well I hope it has been shown how disgusted people are with the behaviour on here and its kind of sick that they knew you knew they were entering your home..and they still continued.  You would assume that they would be ashamed  Very very odd.  :-\\\\

Best of luck to you..

Good luck.  I hope that you have success in getting the deposit back and finding somewhere nice to live.

Since this isn't something our lovely landlady doesn't already know:

She's called the utility company disputing the date we moved in (despite our having faxed a copy of the tenancy agreement twice to the company in question) so now they're attempting to charge us for two extra weeks.

We're living in something akin to a Mexican telenovela.  Well, minus the Catholic priest's illegitimate lovechild with the maid, but still....

Nightmare for you  >:( hold on tight.  From what you have said so far..she will be on a loosing battle anyway.

Now on a lighter note...why don't you start a new thread in the "games" part of the forum.  Titled "guess the landlady"  ;)

I agree with turning the garment bag over to the police. Where there is body fluids, there is DNA.  I am so sorry you're living this nightmare and hope it's over soon.

I agree with turning the garment bag over to the police.

My flatmate started that particular visit to the police station with plopping the bag down on the counter, proclaiming 'This is my pee bag!' [smiley=laugh4.gif] She's a bit special.

At this point, the situation is so absurd, you kind of have to laugh.

You know, I'd like to pay a visit to the brain that formulated a plan "They are annoying and we must drive them out! I know! I'll pee on their stuff!"

I bet the rest of the stuff in it would be fascinating. I just don't want that brain living next door.

Hang in there, GS! Hopefully this will all be over soon.
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

I just got back from the police and they're going to send someone around to do some forensic work around the flat.  The saga goes on and on...

I know right, who thinks like that?

Hopefully the police can turn something up this time.  Good luck!

I've also wondered how they were getting on.  I can't imagine having to live like that!  I'd feel very unsafe.  I hope things have improved for these flatmates.

Well, the good news is that we're finally leaving.  The neighborhood police officers told us the neighbors feel that we're ruining the 'ambiance' of the building, so basically, everybody is relieved at this turn of events.

The somewhat questionable news is that we're being given the runaround on getting the final walkthrough done.  The letting agency has kept giving us the wrong phone numbers (yes, plural) to schedule it and today, a friend of the landlord showed up with his video camera, intent on filming the place, and in possession of... wait for it... keys to the apartment.

That's the third set, that we know of thus far, that's in circulation and I'm sure the landlords are going to attempt screwing us royally on the remaining rent and the deposit, charming people that they are.

The somewhat amusing part of this tale of fail is that we got accidentally accused of growing cannabis due to the ineptitude of the landlord's solicitor....
