If you were a husband or boyfriend...
« on: February 03, 2009, 07:33:25 PM »
...where would your store the pizza cutter?

Okay, I'm aiming this at girls and guys. DH has done it again. Everytime he does the washing up when I'm not around, I can't find anything.

Now he's out of town again and the pizza cutter has gone AWOL. Is it in the metal utensil drawer (middle top drawer on the kitchen island)? Nah, that would be too much like right.  How about the dishwasher? Nada.  In any of the drawers? Nothing doing, pal.

So why is it that even though guys see you keep kitchen things in a particular place -- and they can always go straight to it themselves -- they come up with an entirely new place to put it away when we're not looking ???

1)  What's up with that guys?
2)  Any suggestions on where it might be? (My pizza's getting cold  :D)

Perhaps a schematic of your kitchen would help? ;)

If he's anything like my dad, it will be in the drawer with the tea towels, rubber bands and spare bits of string.  :-\\\\
If we called them Sad Meals, no one would buy them.

Speaking as a guy who is currently a boyfriend and later in the year to be a husband, I'd say:

1) It's not my fault, and

2) I'd put it in the drawer with all the other stuff that doesn't fit in the plastic thing with the knives and forks.  You know, with the peeler and the can opener and the spatula.  That drawer.

good luck,
Carl

It could be anywhere!  DH seems to randomly cycle things around from one random spot to another (he's in charge of washing up, so I can't complain too much).  I did eventually find my favorite metal spatula (still crusty with pizza sauce and cheese) behind the cooker - several months after I thought it was gone, long gone forever.

Does everyone have one of those drawers?  My dad came round to my flat before christmas to wrap some presents, and instinctively knew where we kept th sellotape/scissors/string... in that very drawer!!!

But the pizza cutter shouldn't be there.  That should be, as camascato said, with the wooden spoons, spatulas, slotted spoons, tin openers and zesters.

My husband would put it with the pizza pan.  That would be logical in his mind.

Yes!!  Growing up, it was the "junk drawer" - in our house now, it's called "everything drawer."  Sad thing is, we had TWO everything drawers in the old kitchen and now that we're in a much smaller one with miniature drawers, we don't have room for much in the drawer itself - so we have one of those giant reusable Sainsbury's bags in the cupboard that's being referred to as "the bag of everything drawer," as in "Where are the takeaway menus?"  "They're in the bag of everything drawer."  Or more frequently, "They're in the thing with the thing...over in the thingy."

Can you send him a text and ask? That's what I'd do before tearing the kitchen apart. ;D

Ha. Mine would have suddenly realized he had an urgent email to send from his upstairs computer, and I'd find the pizza cutter behind the printer.  ::)

in the cupboard with the plates, along the sides... no idea why that popped in my head but it seems like irrational rational place to put it.

Let us know where you found it!  I am curious!

My husband would stand in the middle of the kitchen, flapping about saying 'honey, where does THIS go' as if it were some instrument of torture. My MIL, on the other hand (just lived with her for several months) is likely to have used it as an impromptu garden tool. And there it would be, out in the garden. ::)
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Eureka! Not just in the tea towel cabinet. But the one where all the only-use-once-a-year-or-so relics are kept. That is, the cabinet with my wedding china, the Christmas tea towels, holiday napkin rings, silver turkey platter and stuff. I never look in there until the leaves are turning in the Autumn!

Teehee, what possessed him? If I'd gone by my usual routine, I wouldn't have found it until I was ready to carve next Thanksgiving's bird.

Guys, you've got a lot to answer for. :P
