Defrosting question.
« on: February 04, 2009, 12:57:16 PM »
When defrosting something that tends to absorb liquid, like a loaf of bread, what is the best way to do it? On the counter or in the fridge to prevent it getting really soggy?
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

umm, I usually just wack it in the fridge.  I've never had a problem with soggy bread & we always freeze ours!

If its bread, I tend to take the few slices I need for the next few days and put it on a plate and cover it at room temperature.  Sometimes I put it in a plate and place it in the microwave ( whilst not in use ) so it stays protected and out of the way.  If its for toast, I pop it straight in the toaster frozen.

Just thinking about this a little further...I tend to brush off as much ice off the packet before opening.  Maybe some of the ice residue that builds up on the packet is getting into your food ?? just a thought.

If I freeze bread in the wrapper I usually let it defrost on the counter.  We have a frost free freezer though & tend to not leave bread in the freezer very long, so no real icy residue on the wrapping.
