Hi There
« on: June 13, 2004, 11:58:52 AM »
Don't you hate it when you don't know what to say?

New to the board, but not new to the UK. My husband and I have been here 13 years now. We came over when I was 19. Originally we were with the USAF, but when we realised the UK was "home"  he left the forces so we could stay. Luckily his family is from Scotland (his dads family moved to the states when his dad was 13) so getting his citizenship and our permenant resident status wasn't tooooo difficult. :) Right now I am in the process of naturalisation.

We've been together 17 years, since I was 15 and he was 16 and married for 14 of them. We met working at McDonalds in California where we were both raised. Can you get more American than that? ;)  We have two children a teenage son and a 10 year old daughter.

We've been out of the Forces for 4 years now. 4 WONDERFUL years I should say. Im very much looking forward to getting to know other Americans and ex-Americans in the UK.

Hi Rosie

Welcome to UKY, wow great story. Where in the UK are you? If you are in or near London check out the meetings board, we are planning a 4 July picnic in London.

Cheers

Hi Rosie!  It's always great to see other people about that lived the Air Force life!  I have to admit to missing my ID card (I was a brat).

I agree with others in that you have an interesting story.

I look forward to reading more of your posts in the future!

Thanks for the welcome. Guess I should have said we are just a few miles north of Cambridge, living the fantastic Fen life  :D   But my hunny (Aaron BTW) could be getting a promotion in the next few weeks (fingers crossed) and then we may move in a few months time to somewhere better situated for the traveling. Or we may stay exactly where we are.  Don't you love that not knowing excitement kind of feeling?

Thanks again for the welcome. 4th of July sounds like a lot of fun! Are people staying for fireworks on the Thames? Are they doing them this year?

wildrose...quick question. How's the commissaries at Mildenhall and/or Lakenheath? I've got a DOD commissary card which will allow me to shop on them, albeit I'll have to pay V.A.T, but.....can you buy U.K appliances (fridges, washers, dryers, etc) on them or do they only sell American (1110v)?

Well it's been years since I've been to one...  They are very good, but they don't sell appliances. They are groceries only. Not even alcohol. Appliances are sold at the Base Exchange. But yes they sell 220 appliances, usually German  but they have plenty of plug adaptors ;)

A great place to stock up on flaming hot cheetos and sunflower seeds. Oooh and Skippy super chunky peanut butter in the REALLY big jar. LOL
