Bulldogs and Airlines
« on: February 11, 2009, 06:51:25 PM »
I have an Olde English Bulldogge. I am trying to find a airline that will fly her to London.
because she is a "bulldog" all the airlines have restrictions against flying them because they are a short nosed breed.

even though OEB's are known to have better breathing than regular english bulldogs.
and she has never had breathing issues.
i'm still getting the NO.

I have tried:
BA
Virgin
Continental
and NW will only fly her out of airports really far away. (i'm flying out of Logan)

any other suggestions??

Can you take her across on the Queen Mary 2? You'd all travel in style!

Yeah, she is being serious. QM2 has long been considered a viable alternative when moving since they have more lenient pet and baggage restrictions than the airlines.

I don't know of any other approved routes. I mean there's only airlines and boats. go to defra's website and look at approved routes from your area or any nearby and call the airlines. That's all I can suggest. There might not be a viable way unfortunately. :(

As far as I was aware Cunard was the only cruise line that would accept animals..so I guess that is the end of that one.

Julia's answer is the best one to see who would be a carrier of your breed of dog...

Is United Airlines not approved by DEFRA?

it looks like what were going to have to do is....

take Northwest and fly with the pooch from Boston to Detroit and put her on the plane that goes from Detroit to Heathrow...

*IF*... Delta doesn't change stuff during their merge.
if they do... it could mess everything up.

The things we do for our dogs.
she sure is loved.

We have 2 shitz Tzu's and Virgin said they wouldn't fly them but BA would.  This was from Wash Dulles to Heathrow.  I'm surprised it would be different from BA in Boston.  You might want to call them again and ask why.

FYI, It is cheaper to take your dog via the QE2--about 400.00 USD than flying, and you may prefer the piece of mind.  Internal state rooms (no windows, no frills) will run you about 1000.00 per person double occupency.  The trip is 6 days long.
We're using this to move myself, my min pin, and the contents of my apartment over in July.

How far in advance did you book the kennel?

You should be fine with them not changing that policy, I don't think Delta is going to make the merger till the end of the year beginning of 2010
