The Handmaid's Tale I think.

Yup. Serena Joy, specifically.

I think this is blown out of all proportion.

Someone has been charged with a crime in an EU country.  The crime with which he has been charged is also a crime in the UK.  Therefore, he is not being allowed to enter.

It doesn't really matter what that crime is, this is pretty standard stuff, and nothing to do with freedom of speech, but really to do with stopping alleged criminals from coming to the UK.

Vicky

Yes, but if the EU is what it claims to be, then one should not be stopped from entering another EU country. It isn't as if he can hide from Dutch law here. He has yet to be convicted of anything, and if the Dutch prosecutors have not placed any limits on his travels, than why should he be banned from entering another EU country? Were it not for the fact he flew here, or this was an island, he would never had hit immigration.

No, that's not right.  There are restriction on free movement within the EU, and this means that member states have a right to prevent entry in certain situations, such as if the individual has a criminal record or an outstanding charge.  Also, if they feel that his exclusion is in the public interest.  He has a right of appeal, of course.

He should have been quietly allowed in, and privately shown his silly little film to those that wished to view.   Then, quietly asked to leave.
All this has done is, give him the publicity he sought, specifically as his film is now one of the most viewed and downloaded on "Youtube".
I downloaded all four parts, had a look, and it is a silly little film.

Vicky, Thank you for clearing that up. My thoughts were more a question and I appreciated the answer, questions of national sovereignty seem somewhat confused by the EU.

member states have a right to prevent entry in certain situations, such as if the individual has a criminal record or an outstanding charge.  Also, if they feel that his exclusion is in the public interest.

Yet at the same time we get crazy situations such as the concern last year over the Royal Navy capturing Somalian pirates on the High Seas.  Apparently under EU Human Rights legislation they might then have a legitimate claim to political asylum in the U.K.

The EU most certainly confuses questions of national sovereignty.

Geert Wilders is going to America:

Quote from: Newsweek
A member of the Dutch Parliament who was banned last week from entering the United Kingdom because of his inflammatory anti-Islamic views is about to be welcomed to the United States by some notable conservatives.

Meanwhile.....

The radical Muslim cleric Abu Qatada can be deported to Jordan where he faces terror charges, the Law Lords have ruled.

They said Qatada, once described by a judge as "Osama Bin Laden's right hand man in Europe", could be sent back to Jordan despite fears he may be tortured.

The judgment is a victory for the Home Office in its long-running campaign to remove Qatada from Britain, but was criticised by human rights groups.

The ruling overturns the decision by the Court of Appeal that he should not be sent to Jordan.

Yep, makes you wonder why you bother to be a hard-working, law-abiding citizen, doesn't it?

I suppose I just wasn't clever enough to figure out how to cheat work the system.  DH and I live in a comparative sh*thole, but at least we have always done honest work to earn the wages to buy it.  And we never preached hatred against the country that allowed us to live here.

I know it is really frustrating, but just keep reminding yourself that what goes around, comes around. It might not happen as fast as you'd like, but it does.

Right-wing politician Geert Wilders finally arrived in Britain yesterday to be greeted by angry protests from radical Muslims.

The Dutch MP overturned a Government ban to arrive for a brief visit guarded by a heavy police presence.

He had been barred in February amid fears he would incite violence by showing his controversial film linking the Koran to terrorism.

At a packed press conference at Westminster, Mr Wilders, 46, claimed his visit was a victory for freedom of speech.

And the photos of those demonstrators and their signs pretty much highlight Mr. Wilders' point.
