Well unless I can sell a kidney or something, citizenship for me won't be happening this year.  :\\\'( The increases aren't that shocking but in relation to their 'unit cost' makes me want to punch somebody.

To increase the postal ILR fee from £750 to £820 at a time that the service is, well, sub-standard, is absolutely not justified.

Same with the FLR fee ..... from £395 to £465.

Also, do you notice the "*" against some of the fees? Where dependants are included on an application form, and are currently "no extra charge", they will now be £50 each, extra.

I agree, but I still expected worse.

Hello I am just curious..I am about to apply for my citizenship very soon. I was wondering which fee applied to gaining citizenship. I am married to a British citizen and have been for in the UK for over 3 years now. What is the proposed fee for 2009 for gaining citizenship? Thanks for your help.

comnav1, the current fee is £575, plus an extra £80 for the Citizenship Ceremony, a total of £655.

From April that will become £640, plus £80 (or whatever) extra for the Citizenship Ceremony.

When can you apply? When did you arrive in the UK in 2006?

I read over the linked document but didn't seee any relevant dates.  How can you tell it begins in April?  Is that the start of the Government's fiscal year?  My 3 month Maintenance funds detention ends May 1st.

I'm solidly in the 'thought they'd be much worse' camp.  After the huge leap last time, I was expecting another giant step.

pushkin3000 - yes, April's the start of the fiscal year.  The tax year starts 6 April though I think the government's fiscal year starts on the first of April.

Agreed. Crappy but not as bad as it could be. I believe the last round of hikes was worse actually.

Still, John makes a good point: raising fees for worse service doesn't really compute.

Hello JohnL thanks for the response. I arrived in Jan 13 2006 and My 3 years here is jan 13 2009. So I guess currently I have to come up with the £655 before the price rises in April. Thanks JohnL for helping me to understand the price hike.
