Tonight David and I had wandered into a Netto while we were waiting to pick up our Domino's pizza a few doors down.  I like wandering through places like this because I've heard from several people that sometimes you can luck up on finding US products.

Well tonight I found some boxes of Kraft "cheesey pasta" there for 59p each.  The box was as orange as the powdered cheese, not blue like in the US, but the illustration of the finished product on the front of the box looked exactly like the Kraft mac & cheese we all know and love from the US.  I've not tried it yet, so I don't know that it tastes EXACTLY the same, but I'd be very surprised if it DIDN'T.  Of course, there's no way of knowing if every Netto got this, or how long they'll have it, but I thought I'd share my find. :)

When I make it, if it's good/similar to US mac & cheese, I'll post about it for future reference. ;)

And yes, that stuff here in the can is horrific.

Haven't tried it myself since I can't stand boxed mac n cheese, but most folks say the orange box is not the same as the blue box.

Wow, and they are SO right.  That stuff was pretty nasty.  To be fair, I don't usually eat the stuff in the blue box --I will, but I don't often and would rather eat healthier stuff-- it is mostly a fascination with US stuff I don't have at my fingertips anymore, but whoa, that was GROSS.

I don't know a single British person who likes tinned macaroni cheese either.  Maybe it's for the elderly or people with no teeth.  It's vile.

My bro brought my fiancee a blue box of mac and cheese for Christmas, along with Hershey's kisses.  He's not eaten it yet, I think he's a little nervous.

I find that it tastes less like mac n cheese but more like the can it is packed in. Hor-rid!

A co worker here opens the can and gobbles it right up everyday for lunch
He doesn't even heat it up.
Since he seemed to relish in it, I thought it would taste okay....
The can should have sound the alarm.... but I'm a bit slow  :(

JennyI is right... it tastes like a tin can of.... vile goo....
I'm glad I was alone when I ate this because I gagged  :-[

I'm British and can't stand tinned macaroni cheese - as someone said it's VILE!  No idea who eats it - small children perhaps??

If you want readymade M&C have you tried the chilled food aisle?  Tesco's Finest macaroni cheese is very tasty.

DH thinks tinned M&C is 'nice'...I agree though it makes me want to puke [smiley=bleck.gif]...I just resort to cooking pasta & adding a packet of cheese sauce from Farm Foods for us.

The nicest thing I have found is a kid food brand called Miniscoff. They have a West Country Cheddar sauce. Good grief, it's nice! I got it from Abel & Cole, but I think you can get it at Ocado, too..

You poor thing, I am so sorry you had to witness that! You need to set this chap on the straight and narrow  ;)

I made a bowl of homemade mac n cheese a few weeks ago, even added a bit of flour to thicken the cheese sauce. It was divine..

My husband loves all those tinned prepared foods- macaroni cheese, meatballs, hot dogs in a jar *blech*...I really can't understand it and refuse to touch the stuff.

I agree with whoever said that macaroni and cheese and Kraft mac and cheese in the blue box are different foods!

Speaking of macaroni though, has anyone else had a hard time finding elbow macaroni (as opposed to thin tube macaroni ala kraft mac and cheese?)  I've had such a hard time finding the elbow kind for some reason.

The hotdogs are a lesson in gross, yes.  I finally broke down and tried one last night.  David LOVED them.  YUCK.  As for macaroni, I've had a hard time finding it, too!  I finally did get some elbows at Morrison's, but the pieces are SO MUCH SMALLER than I remember them being in the US.

Then again, so are "kitchen rolls" for that matter! ;)
