2009 Oscars
« on: February 23, 2009, 03:21:09 AM »
It was such a good show! I loved the layout of it from the very beginning of a movie to the very end product. I must admit though the whole reason I was watching was because I wanted to see if Heath Ledger would win. I sat and watched with much anticipation of seeing if Heath Ledger would win the Oscar for best actor as the Joker.

It was a very touching moment when they called his name. Myself, my mom and my step dad all clapped when his name was read. I think having his family there to accept it for him was wonderful and for the Oscars to let them speak as much as they needed was nice. The speeches were wonderful and very heart warming...they made me cry like a baby.

Loved the fashions of the night. I disliked that this season was "up dos" for the hair because not everyone can pull it off.

Speak about your favorite moments of the show!

I taped it on SKY and will watch tonight... My days of staying up to watch throughout the night are long gone!

Don't think other than Sean Penn, that there was anything remotely surprising.

I wanted to watch 60 Minutes instead of the Oscars. My wife watched the Oscars but then after 2 hours she wanted to watch Masterpiece Theater, Oliver Twist, instead of the rest of the Oscars.

MO. From what I watched, this year, was the worst production I had see.

I thought I had, but ended up just recording the red carpet stuff with Fearne Cotton.  ::)

My issue is the need to entertain above and beyond the basic premise of the show.  Save for music nominated for Best Song/Score, there is absolutely no reason to have these silly (and pointless) song and dance numbers.  I watch because I want to know who won what award, hear what people have to say when they do, and see what folks are wearing.  If I want to see people sing and dance to entertain me, I'll go see Guys and Dolls.

I thought it was awful.  :-\\\\ It needed a more dynamic host. I was just restless through both big song and dance numbers and I am not a fan of Hugh Jackman's singing voice. I used to love Billy Crystal's little parodies of the nominated films. I really think they need to stick with a comedian as a host.

But the worst was rather than showing actual clips from the films, they did those cringeworthy awful tributes from past winners! I was just appalled. Rather than showing the work they've done, it was just a brown-nose, luvvie fest. :-X And they went on and on and on!

Last night I listened to an interview with Chris Dickens, the editor of Slumdog Millionaire.  It turns out that Danny Boyle's regular editor was working on something else, and couldn't work on SM, and Dickens got the job based on the recommendation of a friend of the regular editor.  And now he has an Academy Award.

Interviewer: "Do you think he's probably kicking himself for not being available for the gig?"
Dickens: [laughs] "Yeah, he probably is."

I FF through the songs and dancing. I really only like the awards and speeches TBH.

But I LOVED how they presented the big awards.  I thought it was a lot more personal.  But I'm usually a blubbering mess watching. (I don't know why?)

I didn't see as many of the nominees this year which really stunk! :(

Wow, Carl, that is sad huh!  LOL!

The only one that felt heartfelt was Bobby De Niro to Sean Penn - at least you know they're p-als in real life.. The rest was just reading off cue cards!  And all that blowing kisses back  :-*:-X

I agree.  I mean, I do understand what they were attempting to do, but it came off less than heartfelt (save for DeNiro).  I sort of felt like I was watching a job performance review.

I hope next year they bring back the funny.

Snap! I hate the "entertainment" so much that I didn't watch any of it. I watched a bit of the carpet 'cause I like the outfits. Then I read about it the next day to find out the winners. Colour me jaded....  :-\\\\

Was that a surprise?  I thought it was in the bag.

Anyone know if they're re-airing the red carpet at any point, or if I can see it online?  I know I can find stills, but I like the "pre-show."  ;D
