Remember--half juice & half water is half the calories of a full glass of juice. An even better combo is half sparkling & water half juice.

Yes!  Or sparkling water with just enough squash to give it a bit of flavor.  I don't really like drinking plain water unless I'm very thirsty.

I do this! Helpful tips:
-Keep your food in a different place from where you spend most of your time. For instance, if you keep your computer in the living room, try and make sure you can't see the kitchen, and don't keep snacks next to it! Then you have to get up to get a snack, so you're less likely to just absently munch.

-Popcorn. I don't know if they've got the 100 calorie bags in the UK yet, but they have them here in the US and it takes me a good hour to finish a bag, because I...

-Eat slowly! Eat one kernel of popcorn at a time. Even if you're eating chips (crisps), don't take huge handfuls at once and they will last longer. If you need a fruit, try raisins or grapes, and you can eat just one at a time so it takes a while to finish. Or for veggies, try cherry/grape tomatoes. My biggest problem is that I have somewhat of an oral fixation :) So I like to always have something in my mouth! So if I eat small, healthy things, it doesn't add up so fast.

-If you have a day where you really just want to snack, don't plan any meals. Whenever I spend a whole day munching, I skip dinner because I've had the calories already.

log your calories... it seriously helps more than you know! I plan out my snacks, and then I just eat whatever I plan. Sounds too easy, but when you don't want to have to log in to add something else, it sort of helps. And I try to drink a lot of water. Or a lite cup of soup or Cadbury's Highlights hot chocolate gives you a few calories, but takes a while to get through, so it helps stave off the cravings!

I discovered last night I am a 'cold' eater - if I'm cold, I will eat and drink non stop. The heating got turned off two days ago and hubby worked late yesterday. It was so cold outside and I had blue extremities and was shivering. Even woollen blankets didn't help. I guess I will never move to the Nordics or back to Northern Canada.

I agree with logging calories.  I use this site: http://caloriecount.about.com/ and it keeps me in check.   Also I agree with Andee...go for a walk, an exercise DVD, anything to get active.
Artificial sweeteners and splenda don't agree with me, I find they make my appetite worse.
I'm still overweight, but it is slowly coming off.

I don't eat when I'm bored, I eat when I'm depressed. :( It's horrid, like I'm trying to fill some hole, and momentarily feels better  but I end up feeling a lot worse afterwards :( (feeling ill off the food, and upset that I ate that much or what I ate and that I don't feel any better for it etc etc.)

Not there yet with kicking it, I'm having a lot of anxiety at the moment, but what I found helps is logging all the food I consume with food focus, http://foodfocus.co.uk/ . Food focus has a LOT of UK food already listed so it's easy to find what you eat, and if not it's easy to enter it.

Also I heard if you drink water, or watered down juic when you want a snack that helps and also doing something for you helps with depressed eating, ie doing your nails, toe nails, hot shower/bath, etc.

Good luck ladies

I know no ones been in here for a while but just felt I needed to vent my anxious eating habits.  I am in a job that does my head in on a daily basis.  I want nothing more than to eat healthy.  Not even really lose weight (an added bonus) but just be healthy.  My problem is the only way I can even remotely get through day is eating chocolate and or anything salty.  My biggest addiction at the moment is peanut m&m's and greggs chicken salad sandwiches.  Oh and cheese and onion crsips (mmmmm).   Not only am I gain louds of pounds, I'm losing loads of £.  Blah.  I really just wish I craved something like an apple when I'm stressed and anxious.    Or I could be one of those people that crave excercise instead of food.

Thanks for letting me vent :)

I am a definitely a bored/eating person.  I have taken up knitting to keep my hands and head occupied.  It prevents me from mindlessly snacking in the evening, which is my biggest challenge from eating healthily.  It has definitely worked for me, as I have lost 7 stone this last year, and I have some nice results from my knitting from it as well.

Having a quick peek at the site, I think this is just what I've been looking for.  I am somewhat overweight and struggle with PCOS and insulin resistance, which makes it worse.  I'm definitely a bored/stressed eater and can use some support.  I would like to lose some weight and am using my brother-in-law's wedding this June in Italy as motivation to get moving.  I'm a believer in not dieting but using lifestyle, but my lifestyle hasn't been helping at all lately.

I think I'm going to join that food focus group.

I am 110% a bored/depressed eater.  Sometimes I'll drink water or chew sugar-free gum instead of eating. I try to make sure not to keep any change with me at work so I can't go for the snack machine. But more often than not,  I'll suddenly realize I'm snacking because I'm upset.  :-\\\\
