Best British films?
« on: February 27, 2009, 01:23:45 PM »
Just trying to think of a few more British films to add to our Lovefilm list, yet I never seem to think of any. There always seem to be so many American films to choose from.  :P  Anyone have any suggestions?

Here are some of my personal favourite British Films.  They are all older, from at least 15 years ago, but I think they are glorious movies:

Hope and Glory

Room with a View

Withnail and I

Shallow Grave

The Commitments

A Summer Story

A Handful of Dust

Where Angels Fear to Tread

Pascali's Island

The Commitments

Not to be picky, and The Commitments is one of my all time faves, but it's *Irish* (not British!) through and through!
Met husband-to-be in Ireland July 2006
Married October 2007
Became a British citizen 21 July 2011
Separated from husband August 2014
Off on an Irish adventure October 2014

I guess I was getting pedantic about it being British because Alan Parker made it.   :)

KES!

"Fly Kes, fly!" - classic

Also how about "Brassed Off"

Both these resonate with me as they are set in this area, the latter is very poignant to me having lived through the miners strike of the early '80's.

A recent one i had from Lovefilm was "Like Minds", a thriller about a boy at a Private (public) school who is suspected of murder, very good psychological thriller.

Waking Ned Devine is one of my favorites! It gets dusted off and watched at least once a month at my house. :)
