Wedding shoe help, please!
« on: March 01, 2009, 07:09:38 PM »
I've been searching for shoes to wear to my June wedding, and am not having much luck. Help!

My dress is ivory with coffee-coloured bits of lace, so I think an ivory or cream coloured shoe would work best. I'd rather wear a sandal or peep-toe shoe than a closed-toe one, but that's not set in stone. And I don't really want an overly high heel. I'm thinking 1-2"? Although, in a pinch, I might be able to wear 2 1/2" heels if they're really comfortable. I don't want to spend crazy Jimmy Choo money on them, but I'll go up to £100 if I have ... though, of course, I'd rather not.

Any suggestions? I'll be very grateful to anyone who can point me in the right direction!  :)

Sorry Chary, I have no idea where to buy shoes in the UK. I bought my wedding shoes in the US. Good luck, though, and it's great that you are already getting a start on your wedding stuff instead of waiting until the last minute -- I bought my shoes the day before I had my alteration appointment!  :o

I got ballet shoes from a dance shop for £5 when I got married. Could a dance shop provide something that you're looking for?

Ballet shoes aren't comfy to me. I need a bit of heel.  :-\\\\

My next fitting is in 17 days and they'd like me to have my shoes by then.

Is there a Deichmann near you?  They have a great selection of reasonably priced shoes.

Excellent thread, Chary! I have given up looking on this side of the pond. The heels are always too high and I don't want a pointy toe and that's all I can find here. I'm looking for exactly what you're looking for. When I tried on my dress she had some 2 in heels at the shop that I could use with my fitting. Now I just know not to get anything higher than that. I could go a bit lower, but ballet flats aren't an option. I need to have a bit of a heel too. Good luck finding something!

Chary, I think we are getting married on the same day!  8)

I haven't really decided what shoes I am wearing.  I have only just ordered my dress.  I get the feeling I should have done more by now...

Chary, I love a google challenge!

What about these.

Or this pair.

A completely flat sandal

A pair of dyables!

Piece of advice from me.  I wish I never wore heels at all. Again, like you ballet shoes were not a option for me either.  I don't feel as feminine without a little bit of a lift. My dress was quite long, and altho It was not touching the ground by a few inches, when having piccys taken on grassy areas, my heels sunk into the mud, ruining the shoes.  Also because of the faffing around taking pics, my heel caught the back of my dress on a grass verge and also once as was going up some stairs...needless to say....I put two little holes in my dress which I still need to get repaired.  Which, when you consider the prices of wedding dresses..I was a little miffed.

I wish I wore some form of solid strappy wedge. Something along the lines of these

I was told by countless people not to wear a heel, I chose to ignore them, and now I wish I hadn't.

I'm seriously considering some pretty hand embroidered Doc Marten boots...I'm just waiting for their summer collection to come out to see if there is anything suitable.

Chary, I got my shoes in the US as well and they were, technically, dance shoes so pretty comfy. I had a pair of tango shoes. I'll try to find a link. I recall there was a UK supplier, too. It was just cheaper for me to get them in the US. They were closed toe but only about 1-1/2".

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I wore wedges too, raffia espadrilles with a flower embellishment, they were nice and comfy and didn't sink into the ground.  But they would be too casual for most people, I expect, I didn't have a traditional dress.

I used to have a friend that decorated and embroidered Doc Martins and Wellys for festy's! She was brilliant!

C, I would be interested in this link. Or, if you know the shop where you bought them let me know!
