Hungover, at 1pm, on a Saturday afternoon, with munchies and nothing in the 'fridge...it is then acceptable to put on a long coat over PJ's to do the mercy dash to the newsagents (which MUST be less than 1 minute walk away) in order to get the paper, a pint of milk, paracetamol, a box of Mr Kipling's Cherry bakewells and a tube of Pringles...

...that, IMHO, is the only time it is acceptable to leave the house wearing PJ's.

DD commented at Christmas time on the trend to wear slippers (usually great furry things) out of doors, even in the cold and snow -- probably to go with the PJ pants.

Exactly!  The Dude abides.

I don't know about you but I take comfort in that.  It's good knowin' he's out there.  ;)

I do, too.  In fact, I'm staring at his DVD on top of the TV as I type! ;)

OK I forgot to input one thing. We live in a desert climate so casual clothing is the norm.

Now to follow up.

When we go to our cardiologist, in Los Angeles, all the people in the office including the doctor are wearing "scrubs".

What do your doctors in the UK wear in their "surgery"? It use to be business attire.

Come to think of it I see medical people in the store every day in scrubs so that is a little bit the same thing.

Scrubs don't appear all that much in the UK -- even around hospitals.  Most of the nurses, etc. still wear uniforms although more often likely to be trousers than dresses.  And no more silly hats.  I like the neat tunics and trousers better than the scrubs with goofy cartoon characters or whatever.
The consultant (female) we've seen wears very trendy outfits (skirts and sweaters) with fashionable high heels.
My primary care doctor in US wears the white lab coat over street clothes but the nurses all wear the scrubs.

Boston,
I kind of like the old startched uniforms. Now a days with what they wear I can't identify who is a janitor or who is a nurse.
Did I ever tell you about the mother who went into a delivery room and had the baby delivered by the janitor. She wasn't billed for the delivery. ;D
Actually that wasn't far from the truth on our first delivery because when my DW went into the delivery room the nurses were on strike, in San Francisco, and the doctor was running around screaming for some help.

I think men should be required to wear kilts and no trousers.

I think this should be law :)

PB,
do you still have all those tubes in you for the testing?
Sorry for the highjack.

No extraneous tubes in me that I know of!

Yep, I just went back and checked. It must have been someone else.
Sorry. Hope all is well.

No worries, you can't miss my ranting about being ill lately, so its probably why you're thinking of me.  You may have been thinking of Mrs R being all wired up  :)

ahhh... that just took me back to my pre-baby days!  How sad is it that I have nostalgia for a hangover?!

Jim, my friend Iain is a nurse in London, and as far as I can tell different hospitals have different policies.  His job at St Thomas' came with a tunic and trousers, and his job at Charing Cross came with scrubs.
