Best Hangover Cure?
« on: March 06, 2009, 11:23:42 AM »
My friend is a drinker, so I bet I will be having a few hangovers this coming week.  8)
Just wondering what you all think is the best "cure" - food and drink, that is, rather than just crawling back into bed!  :D
I used to have a cheese danish and a coke slurpee from my local 7-11 (not exactly good for the hips, but you know....) and now I am at a loss without those things!  :P

Something stodgy & greasy - like a bacon cheeseburger or a fryup!

Unless I'm violently ill, and then I usually just start with toast and work from there.
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...

If my stomach is bad... Andrews Salts and bed.

If it's just my head... sugar, salt, and fat (in that order). My personal preference: full fat Coke, whichever Dorritos have the most E numbers, and cheese on toast.

Thankfully I've figured out exactly what triggers my hangovers so they're relatively rare these days!

Greasy foods and Diet coke always helps me ;D

Mine are rare like Anne's though.  But that is because I don't drink as much as I used too. 8)

Last bad one, the following helped:

Egg and cheese sandwich for breakfast.

Wagamama for lunch

Cupcake for snack

Pasta for dinner.

And water water water...

I just couldn't stop eating.  but typically, it's coffee and a bagel to get me started, and then I'll see how I proceed from there.  When things are really bad, I just need a vanilla milkshake.

To drink, Lucozade isotonic sport (non-fizzy, orange flavour).  Rehydrates brilliantly. If you haven't got any, a little orange juice mixed with tonic water.

To eat, Something very carb heavy, such as pasta, but with a non-acidic sauce, so not too heavy on tomato. Or, if you can't stomach that, a fried egg sandwich.

The best thing is a Bloody Mary, of course - with lots of tabasco.

Oddly, one of my favorite Sunday meals (if I went out on Saturday) was a tomato mozzarella salad, and I think it's because of the lycopene in the tomatoes.  A good fresh tomato does the trick for me.

But I really like..want the fried egg sandwich first.

Also (don't know if they have them here) but there are Emergen-C packets, which isjust powdered vitamin C in various flavors.  Dump it in a glass of cold water..and enjoy.

Irn Bru and something to get you sweating, even if that makes you sick.

Irn Bru.

I can't eat anything greasy when I have a hangover.  I seriously think I would die.

The best cure is not to drink in the first place  ;)

;D Only joking - I second Vicky's suggestion of isotonic sports drinks as they always work for me.

Alka-Seltzer the first time you wake up in the morning to go wee.

Then back to bed for an hour or two.

Then something fizzy and sugary - I have tried all the above mentioned drinks, coke, lucozade and Irn Bru.  Then bring on the greasy food.

But if you can remember to do this the night before....Down like 3-4 glasses of water right before bed.  Seems to help me prevent the hangover.

Good luck and have fun!!
