Actually it was cheese and pickle.   [smiley=disappointed.gif]  Haven't had a chance to open the grapes yet.

Hi and welcome to DriveUp and the other new peeps about!

Thanks vnice!

For my own intro, I was born in Brooklyn and became an expat in 1989.  But only the last 9 years of that have been in the UK.

I started out living in Chelsea, then moved to Marylebone in 1997 and have been there ever since.

My contact details are at http://www.oisc.gov.uk/adviser_finder/register.asp?type=exempt&section=g at the top of the page.  I have a secondary profession as an advisor.  My wife is going for an advanced degree in immigration law at City University, but she's more focused on the asylum and refuge side.

I don't usually post too much in the general forums, but I will appear in the visa boards if somebody has a problem or gets in over their head.

I knew "driveupcoffee" originally as an "ICQ buddy" beforehand.  Also later in person.  I'm especially glad to see her up and alive again.

Nice to be here, and sure, if somebody needs some help, let me know any time!

Hey welcome!  I'm heading to London in the near future (end of July) - not sure where I'm living yet but looking forward to it!

Hi Garry and welcome.  I was wondering if you'd post your own intro.

Immigration is indeed an interesting field. I am hoping to do a PhD on immigration in Spain as a matter of fact.

I hope you enjoy the site!

A PhD is a big commitment!  Are you coming from the policy side or the advocacy side?

Um.. both  ;)  Basically it will be policy based.  Trying to analyze among other things the whole 3/11 impact if any.  I tend to be quite an advocate of immigrant rights though so I am sure that despite my best attempts some of my bias might seep through.

I did some work with advocacy groups while living there.  In fact they helped me get my papers to make me legal.

Split household here:   spouse on the policy side, but she helps out on casework sometimes.  I got legal a while back - in the nonprofit sector, but haven't worked with any groups other than the IAS and my own constituency office.

Somehow managed to leave the word Spain out of the post!  ::)

Legal in Spain.  Which for a USA citizen is tough.

welcome to uky driveup...  hope you will continue to stay after your coffee cup is emptied...

I use to be a coffee addict...  gave it up when I gave up smoking a few years back...  of course unless I am offered some coffee with bailey's in it...then bring it on.

Funny thing -- my coffee cup never seems to be empty  :o
When you gave up coffee -- I took over your share  ;)

My Grandfather got me started on coffee at a very young age -- it was mostly milk at the time -- but it was when he would sit me down with him in the kitchen and we would have a "cuppa Joe" -- for the longest time I never understood WHY were we drinking JOE when it smelled like coffee.  I told my father years later -- he laughed and laughed!
