;D

What does the apostrophe in "D'oh" represent? I sometimes write it that way and sometimes just as "Doh," but I'm never quite sure. I know it's not a real word, so there's probably no correct or incorrect way to do it, but I have always wondered about that apostrophe.

I think the Simpsons writers spell it with the apostrophe. Since I guess they invented the word, I tend to spell it like that as correct.

I didn't know that type of comma had a name - Oxford or serial. I use it when it's necessary for clarity, but otherwise I leave it out. Because I used to work in advertising so I'm from the school of "the less punctuation, the easier on the eyes".

Ah, the "typography and aesthetics beat grammar" school of thought. A lot to be said for it actually. Although I must say that one thing that always grates on me is the American practice of using "embedded capitals" in trade marks and brand names. So much so that many visitors seem to think that the company which runs trains to Paris is called EuroStar.  We seem to be following suit here in the UK with e.g. easyJet...
