HELP! Waiting for my ILR Set M, Are You Still Waiting?
« on: March 09, 2009, 11:42:04 AM »
Hi Anyone in this Boat!

I submitted my ILR application from a spousal visa back in Nov.  It is now week 16 and I have not had any response to the application beyond the initial letter we received to confirm that they received the application.  The most frustrating part is that I don't know how long it will REALLY going to take because they don't tell you what point the are processing!  I am just wondering if any of you out there have been through the process and can tell me how long it actually took for yours to be processed?  It will help me have some idea of how long to expect and if I need to withdraw the application.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

You might want to contact your MP and see if they can get some answers for you. When some here have done that the visa shows up magically in a few days! Just an idea.

I'm not sure there is a point in doing that after only 16 weeks.  Why not complain directly first?

Though I still think ti is too early.

My information is from October 2008...but I have been told that after 14 weeks you may call the Help Line listed on that initial letter and that they will provide updates on the application. Have you tried that?

I have contacted their help line and they only say they can't tell us anything.  Would be helpful if they could.  We have also met with our MP, but nothing has come about yet.  My father has cancer and my mother had a heart attack back in January and I really need to know how long this is going to take because I don't have time to be waiting for these guys to get their act in gear.  If I am looking at a year, or even 6 months of this, I am going to withdraw the application. Unfortunately, they are still not much help with this.

It will probably be in the region of 20 weeks.

Have you written to tell them that you need to travel?

If you can document your parents' ill health, then your MP may be able to help you expedite the whole thing. It is worth a try.

What the heck has happened? ILR's used to take six to eight weeks...then it went up to just below the 14 so they could keep their stats up. And now it is taking over three times as long as it used to? Have they gone on an industrial slow down in protest of the below inflation pay raises? I mean I know that there are changes pending...but still.

Hi cntrouniv,

I'm in the boat with you--it sucks big time.  Here is something that may help you though.  They received mine 26th Nov, and I rang the helpline and told them I needed to travel so they gave me a fax number and asked me to fax a letter with my travel itinerary.  Unfortunately for me, my travel plans are not for any reason except holiday..so they are unable to expidite my applicaiton.  However, I did get a letter on 2nd March saying that they were on that day, working on applications received on 14th Nov.  So ours should be coming up for review soon.  At least that is some information I have received and its helping a bit to calm me down.  I am due to travel on 2nd April and am stressing every day, but hope it comes back soon.

If you need to travel urgently and have circumstances that you think they may consider (sick parents), then I'd consider faxing.  I'm ringing the IEB in a bit to see if I can squeeze any more information out, or at least if I'm lucky hear that my application is being considered.  I'll post again once I'm off the phone.

M

Oh that is fantastic news!  I haven't made any actual arrrangements to travel simply because I didn't want to loose potentially even more money!  My application was submitted almost the exact same time as your (Nov 20th) and it is good that they let you know where they were up too!  That is all I really wanted from them.  I did fax them the info about my mom, my dad's status has happened just this week so I haven't gotten his details yet to fax to them!  I look forward to hearing how your goes and keep my fingers crossed you will be able to travel on the 2nd!

Thanks!

Yes definitely better than no information at all! Because of what is at stake I can't help but be very stressed and nervous that it won't come back in time.  However, the fact that they are quite close to the date I submitted, I do feel slightly more confident that I'll have it very soon.  Trying to keep positive!!

Congratulations!  That is great news!  I am so glad yours is on its way!  How were you able to get them to give you the details?
