If you need your statements and still have time to get the amount of statements you need, have them mailed to you each month. If not, have a set ordered. HSBC wont verify anything and the only leter they gave me was one stating that my statements were being mailed to me. They came as I was heading out the door to mail my application.

Ok . I called this Lady at the local branch ..and she was kind enough to print the last three statements dec 08, jan 09 and feb 09 on their original letter head and put it in an envelope...all i need is ..to go and pick them up ..
this sounds OK right ? ..also I will attach the letter the bank sends in whatever format...

You would want to try at different branches. I was able to get the statements stamped and signed

I bank with HSBC and I diligently refused/ignore all their many, many email and snail proddings for me to switch to online statements, specifically because of this. Not helpful I know; just saying.

There seems to have been much discussion recently about bank statements for visa apps.

As far as I'm aware, the ones needed are the original statements that are sent out in the post (monthly/quarterly etc).

Generally Print outs obtained at the the branch (regardless of whether these are stamped/signed) are not acceptable.
Online printouts - also no good

If you're not currently in receipt of original, printed statements call your bank at order a set and/or switch to "paper" statements.

They should be fine if stamped and signed.

I printed out the online ones and then went to the branch and had them stamped and signed, and the woman included her card as well in case they had any questions.  That worked for me.  (But I was T2/ICT, so I know there may be less scrutiny).

I had problems with them sending me anything through the mail, though--I would just go directly to the branch and explain why you need it.

Nothing to do with less scrutiny, it worked for you because you provided something that exactly met the requirements of the Guidance. As Vicky has already replied to Jalexa's post, anything statement-wise other than what you receive in the mail should be fine as long as each page is stamped and signed by the bank - assuming it demonstrates the balance at all times.
