500+ layoffs at my old work...so many people I know that are so talented are losing their jobs.

I'm so sorry for people who are struggling with difficulties at the moment.  And I'm sorry I haven't been here to offer sympathy to people.  We've had our own bad news nearly two weeks ago now and I have been distracted and not giving others sympathy. 

My dad has esophogeal cancer.  It has spread to his liver and yesterday he had to have a stint put in his throat so he can swallow food.  It's an aggressive cancer and most people do not live a year after being diagnosed.  My dad has been given a year to live.  It's hard and we are trying to decide what to do right now.  I always liked living here, but right now, I hate it.  I want to be near my family. 

Apologies for moaning.  I know lots of other people are having hard times too.
