Today was the big day - the stem cells flew in overnight and apparently the lab tests showed they're really good quality cells, so only one bag was needed. My mom and fiance were here with me and brought in apple juice to do a to a toast in lieu of champagne.

Yesterday was a Bad Day for me - the first time I've been nauseous, followed by a headache and fever and vomiting (sucks that it started after the chemo had stopped!). But today was a new day, and I felt much better today, getting my appetite back with a big portion of baked mac & cheese for dinner!

Now the waiting begins....
Summer 97 - first visited friends in London
99-00 - studied at Uni of Sussex on exchange
Feb 02 - moved to London on BUNAC
Sep 02 - WP granted (IT skills shortage list)
Sep 04 - WP renewed
Sep 06 - WP renewed again (screwed by 4-5 year ILR change)
Sep 07 - ILR!
March 09 - Citizenship!
July 09 - bone marrow transplant :(
18 Sep 10 - wedding!
Mar 12 - half marathon in Paris! 1:47:12!
Oct 12 - Amsterdam FULL marathon! 3:48:23!

Hope it all goes well, and that you don't have any further bad side-effects.

Hey SP, sorry about yesterday, sounds pretty awful, but really glad you're feeling better today and that the stem cells were really good quality :) All sounds really promising (aside from the nausea) and I wish you lots of get well wishes :)

My IA is that I took my son in for a recheck on a mole in his bellybutton (was deemed ok in August 08) but its looking a little irritated, especially on one edge and so now they want it out. But, being in his belly button they won't do it in office and are referring me to a peds plastic surgeon (my  Jonas is only 4). The wait for the initial consult is 6 weeks (!!) followed by approval from my insurance (of course they are approving it, they sent us to them!!) and then scheduling an appt for the actual removal. I'm of course concerned that it might be a melanoma despite the physician's assistant who is referring us over saying that she doesn't think it is. Its a mom's job to worry right? I don't know if she's basing her opinion on the characteristics of the mole itself or the fact that there's only one known case of a small child with melanoma in the world (that she's heard of and she says she goes to biannual international melanoma conferences) and that was a 6 year old and someone in every generation of their family had melanoma at progressively lower ages.

I have anxiety issues and I don't know if I can deal with this wait. I've emailed the PA to ask for more informed reassurances or help getting an appt at another non-kaiser sanctioned facility or a faster appt at this one.

I know (ok I just really hope) it will be fine but you just never know.

The night before last, I accidentally stepped on my foster kitten's foot.  He screamed, limped for about 10 minutes, then went about his business.  When I came home last night, his left rear paw was swollen and he was limping.

I called the vet today, explained the situation, and got an appointment.  Apparently I stepped on his foot just right to severely pinch the skin.  There was a little scab on it, which the vet removed.  He has an abscess, but no broken or dislocated bones.

I have to soak his foot twice-daily for 10 minutes or rinse it, for the next 3 days.  He's also on Amoxil for 7 days.  $148 later, he and I were happy to be home.  I had to change the cat's litter to the same Yesterday's News that my rabbit is using (per the vet), so it won't get into the kitten's foot.  Penny Lane, my mentally-challenged tabby, is now confused about the litter box, because she knows she's not allowed to potty in the rabbit's box.  I can't leave a box with the regular litter down now, or the injured kitten will use it.  Oh, what fun!

I'm kind of in a situation where I think I am going to have to throw boundaries to the wind and make someone i care about very angry.

My mother's best friend, who I have loved like a mother for my whole life, just recently escaped a relationship with a very sick, abusive man. While they were together, she went from being perfectly healthy to having a very aggressive blood disease. According to things that she has said, this man was always trying to make her stay in bed all the time while he cooked for her, and he would sit there and watch as she ate what he had prepared. He was literally doing this, all the time. She went to a specialist the other day, and he told her that she either had this blood disease(which I can not recall the name of) or that she had heavy metal poisoning. He asked if she had any enemies who could be poisoning her. She said no. I have just found out that this man (who is in his early 50's) has had 3 former wives die, all from liver failure. This is 100 percent fishy, but she refuses to go to the police because she is scared and embarassed.

I should just call a detective, right? She's been so battered that she seems to have lost any spirit at the moment.

As a survivor of an abusive relationship (yeah it was one of those escape during the night tele-drama movies) ...I would call the police or better yet, call one of the insurance companies that paid out on his former wives...they'll hunt him down like the dog that he is.

Actually Weby, that is a great idea! I don't want to make her angry, but it would be silly to do nothing. This man needs to be shot.

I'd agree, that's just horrific. I'd go to authorities. If it were a person I was close to, I would explain that I'd always regret not having done it and couldn't live with knowing he'd likely do it again to someone else and succeed.

Great news! The doctor brought me the fantastic news this morning that my neutrophils (bacteria munchers) went up (for the first time ever!) to 0.7 today, which is the highest they’ve been since about February and the first sign that my donor stem cells are beginning to graft and do their job!! And it’s only Day 11! :D
