Thanks pb and BostonDiner.  I got it wrong, it's a mass in his lung even though the symptoms he was having were nausea and fever, which could just be flu.  They're going to start tests immediately to see what's going on.
Thinking about your dad, Andee.  :-*

Hope all is well with your dad Andee.  [smiley=hug.gif]

Although not unexpected, R's mum passed away yesterday morning. She had been in ICU for 3 months after a cardiac arrest. She was 78 and had led a long and and full life, so we are all pretty peaceful about it. Sad, but peaceful.

She had welcomed me into the family with open arms and I will miss her so much. She was full of fun and was always up for an adventure. RIP mummy!  :\\\'(

Oh, no, sorry to hear Courtney.  I've had older family members pass away too, and even though it wasn't a surprise, it doesn't make it any easier sometimes.   [smiley=hug.gif] [smiley=hug.gif]

So sorry for your loss, Courtney.  :(

Unfortunately, my family is about to have the same experience. My sister emailed me the other day to say that her mother-in-law only has days left. She's been battling cancer for nearly two years and it's now entered her heart. She's been a part of the family for so long now, and my sister is now struggling with how to explain to her two young children that their grandmother is going to die soon. I wish I could be with my sister now to help her through this.  :(

Thanks Courtney.  He had the mass removed on Friday but it was discovered that the cancer (and it is cancer) had spread inside the chest cavity.  We won't know anymore until he sees the oncologist on Monday. :(

My heart goes out to you and your hubby in your loss.  And elle.davis my heart goes out to you and your sister and her family as well.

My brother-in-law's mother died last night. I woke up at 5am not feeling quite right and noticed the email on my phone from my sister. Despite the family knowing this was going to happen, it seems they're taking a bit harder than they initially thought they would. My four-year-old niece has also been a bit traumatised by this ordeal and is becoming very clingy to people, realising now that people don't stay around forever. My family has always been very close with my BIL's family, to the point that we always shared Christmas and Thanksgiving with them. They've been in my life longer than not. And while I am really sad about her death, I'm most struggling with the fact that I can't be there to help anyone through this time. This is the first death I've had to experience from abroad and am realising there will be more, and those will be even harder.  :(

So sad.  And so true--there will be more deaths here and abroad for all of us.  :\\\'(  Hugs to you and your family elle.

Very sorry to hear of your news elle -  I don't think any of its easy, even if it is 'expected' -  We live for miracles and hope and wait that a miracle comes our way.  Its the only thing left at that point and you can't give up hope.

(((Hugs))))
