Oh crap, Tams - best of luck to her!! It kinda puts things into perspective, suddenly a postage stamp isn't so bad when someone else might have the whole lung taken. :( I really hope everything goes well for her and it's just a small infection.

Sending good vibes towards OR for you and your mom, Tammy. Hope the surgery goes well and nothing drastic needs to be done.

Thanks for the well wishes, and I hope everything goes well with your stuff too--I don't think I'd be strong enough to do what you've had to do. I've heard from other people with chronic issues that you just do what you have to do, but I don't think I could go through the stuff you've been through and still be positive and optimistic  :-\\\\ I'd probably be a big baby if someone told me they were taking a postage stamp chunk out of my lung  :-[

Sending good vibes towards OR for you and your mom, Tammy. Hope the surgery goes well and nothing drastic needs to be done.

I'll pass them on to my mom when I talk to her, it should be tomorrow sometime once she's back in her room and stuff, I know she'll appreciate it :)

I think this calls for group hug time *group hug*

Oh Tammy! *hugs* :( I hope your mom is okay. Please keep me updated... I think it's about that time - for you and I to get together. We need it. *Joins in the group hug*

Squirrellypoo, that sounds awful. :( I hope all goes well. Keep us posted.

Thank you everyone else for your comments and your concern... Just gonna have to take it one day at a time. A trip home will help too. Tammy, are you going to go back to see your mom?

Oh Princesslemons, I just got home from a weekend away, I'm so sorry. If you need anything or any immoral support, just let me know, even if it's going on a mission to find some good pancakes in London or something :)

Tammy, I'm incredibly sorry about your mum, and hope everything goes away.

SP - ack! Sounds terrible, and I hope it isn't as bad as it sounds. You've been doing so incredibly well, I know you'll get through this, so I'll just wish you lots of good luck.

Really sorry to hear all of this for everybody.

x

Just a quick update since I got a phone call from home about an hour ago (yes, we kept the mobile phone right next to our bed so we'd hear it ring :P). I guess my mom is out of surgery and the surgeon says it's an infection, and the spots they saw on the CT scan were little pockets of pus. What none of my family told me was that she was running a temperature, which if I had known I would of leaned more towards infection than all the other scenarios that were running through my head, but yeah. They've cleared it out, and she's on a breathing tube at the moment since only one lung is really working, but they'll let her rest on it through the night and take her off of it in the morning once she's had a rest. I guess they'll also possibly start her on some meds to help her get over the infection, but the major thing was clearing it out, and hopefully once she's awake she'll be able to be more comfortable and breathe better.

So, I'm *extremely* thankful it isn't cancer or anything like that, since as far as I know they can deal with the infection, and just having it out of her will help her loads. I won't get to talk to her till she's off the ventilator, but I'll try to touch base with my aunt at some point within the next day or so to get more information, but so far it's good in that it's not cancer. I'll feel way better when I can talk to her (since it's weird to know I really can't :(), but I'll take the good news for now.

All of everyone's well wishes and thoughts and good vibes really helped, and when I get to talk to her I'll pass them all along her way.

Squirrellypoo, good luck with your biopsy hun, I'll be rooting for you :) And Maria, if you need anything shoot me something on facebook or MSN--and once I sort out my mobile you can get me there too. And we definitely need a meet-up, it's been a lovely November this year  :-\\\\ (even though utimately I know I still have loads to be thankful for).

More good luck and well wishes for your biopsy SP, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery and good news--and Tin, thanks for the well wishes :)

I had a word with my aunt and she gave me more info. I guess it was a pretty bad infection, and the surgeon said if it had gone another week she might not have made it, and that's pretty scary to consider :( But, she was doing well when the spoke to her, she was in good spirits and very happy to hear it wasn't cancer, and they're working on getting her into a private room today which means she's off the breathing tube. She still has a drain in her chest in case there's any little bit of infection left, but the surgeon said he got everything out.

He also said that it's a bacterial infection, and they're not entirely sure where she could of gotten it from, but since she's diabetic it might have made her more susceptible to it. It might have also been what made her glucose so wonky, beyond just not being on her meds, but they have her on the appropriate antibiotics for it. So now it's just supporting her while her lung heals, and it might take a bit since she's a little older and has diabetes, but she's in a good hospital with awesome doctors--and I should be able to talk to her tomorrow maybe, which will be nice :)

So glad to hear your mom's recovering, Tammy. Definitely very scary that an extra week would've made such a large difference, but the important thing is that she's on the mend. :)

Thanks everybody. I'm in a world of owwwwwww but I'm okay. The painkillers they sent me home with are working if I don't move much (an improvement on post-surgery when it hurt every single breath despite the morphine). I forsee lots of DVDs today! I'm hoping to be able to eat again, too, because after 21 hours of nil by mouth yesterday, my stomach rejected EVERYTHING. including once out the car window on the way home, right next to a bus full of people! How mortifying!!

But at least it's done, and I'll find out next week what's in there, since they have to send it to microbiology for analysis. And for the first time in 2 months, I don't have to go into hospital today since Home Care is finally starting and they're coming to me!
