My friend's sister died on Saturday after a long battle with cancer. My girlfiend was really down when I saw her at Christmas, as it was likely going to be her sister's last.

All I'd like to do is give her a hug.
It's hard to do that from a distance, I know. But I know you'll do your best to be supportive. It's really hard losing a sibling because there goes the past that you shared and the future that might have been.

Thanks for the support, everyone. My Granny did fine during the surgery, which the doctor called "routine" so now she's just in the ICU for an indefinite amount of time. :( The doctors said she may have good days and bad days so it's still touch & go. I feel bad for my mom, though, because she rushed down there to be at her bed all weekend but now she is forced to go back to work with Granny still so drugged up she doesn't even know her name... But at least my BMT nurse said I'm okay to fly if I have to (and to get specialist travel insurance that'll cover BMT-related things).

Hope she's feeling better soon.

Jennie, so glad they figured out what's going on with your dad.

SP, hope you granny perks up soon.

A friend of DH's has been missing for the last 7 weeks.  They were co-workers here, but lost touch a bit after he moved back to Scotland.  They found a body in the river Tweed and they think it's him :(  DH is beyond gutted.

(((hugs)))
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I just wanted to update that my Granny is not only out of the ICU, but she's out of the hospital entirely! They transferred her to the skilled nursing unit of her retirement village. It's a pretty cool place - my grandparents have a flat there, but the skilled nursing unit is also on site, as are restaurants and lots of activity places like a woodshop for the men, and most importantly - all my Granny's friends are right there, and Pop can stay in their flat and just walk over to see her now. She's got a bunch of rehab ahead of her, and she'll have to let her hair grow back after the brain surgery, but my mom saw her this weekend and said she's in good spirits.
